After HyunA shared a photo with Yong Junhyung alluding to their relationship, many fans have recalled the controversy the idol had been a part of during the height of The Burning Sun controversy.
In the past, Yong Junhyung was embroiled in controversy because of his relation to Jung Joon Young chatrooms. At first, he denied all involvement in the chatrooms via his agency, later he clarified he was indeed in a chatroom with Jung Joon Young and had received illegally taken videos from him but denied having circulated or filmed any illegally taken videos himself. He admitted to watching the videos sent to him, he said,
I never received a video on that kakao conversation [the major one] but I received other videos. We also had inappropriate conversations about it. All of these behaviors were so immoral and I was stupid. I am at fault for not treating it as a big deal without thinking this was a crime and a criminal act.
Jung Joon Young was filming women in secret and without their consent and sharing it with various idols and in various group chats. At the time, people were genuinely shocked and disappointed in Yong Junhyung.
Yong Junhyung then left Highlight and was questioned by police as a witness and never charged. He subsequently enlisted quietly, and left Around Us Entertainment in 2021.
And in 2022, the idol then announced his plans for his first comeback in four years under a new agency. The news received major backlash from former fans and netizens alike.
While both agencies denied to comment on the relationship between HyunA and Yong Junhyung despite them both sharing what looks like a relationship announcement post, many are not happy with HyunA’s choices.
Many have expressed their disappointment in HyunA for being together with a man like him or even sharing a photo holding his hands considering his past. Considering HyunA’s past statements and her clear stance on supporting women’s rights, many have expressed their surprise to see her associate herself with someone who watched the said videos of women.
Others believe the idol might have repented and changed his ways and shouldn’t be judged on past mistakes.
