JTBC upcoming Saturday drama “Nevertheless” is airing later today, ahead of its premiere, a press conference was held and the director explained why the drama has 19+ rating for some of its episodes.

On June 18, “Nevertheless” press conference was held online to prevent the spreading of COVID-19. Song Kang, Han So Hee and director Kim Ga Ram attended the press conference to discuss the upcoming JTBC drama “Nevertheless.”

“Nevertheless” had previously made headlines for possibly aiming to be rated 19+ because of some of the drama scenes. The director has finally confirmed some episodes will be rated 19+ and explained the reasoning behind it, she said,

“A lot of people are thinking crude things about the rating, but the truth is, the characters are over 19 years old and sometimes would act their age.

Since people under the age of 19 can’t see those things, that’s why the rating came out like that.”

It tells the story of Yoo Na Bi (Han So Hee), who wants to date but doesn’t believe in love, and a man named Park Jae Uhn (Song Kang), who thinks dating is a bother but wants to be date around.

The drama only has 10 episodes and will air once weekly, and will premiere on June 19 at 11PM KST.

My personal thoughts- by Jazmine K.

I remember the buzz this generated. I like how JTBC doesn’t mind treading through such territories if it has to be done. Of course, you miss out on a good portion of a potential audience but if it has to be done then it has to be done.

As the director said, they are over 19 years old and would act like adults, if the drama is a realistic romance drama, there would be scenes that will likely get them that rating.

I don’t really mind it, it’s not something that would deter me. I prefer them acknowledging that and rating it at as such as opposed to acting its appropriate for all ages when its not, and then getting backlash for it similarly to what happened to “Backstreet Rookie.”

Judging by the previews, it seems to be aiming to portray the realistic romance between people in their twenties, it’ll be interesting to see what they do with this topic, it could get stale but the lead male appears to be an actual player and a jerk to the women around him, it will be nice to see how one young woman changes him.

  1. Jae-eon has never been anything but, hold on to your hats, a gentleman to Na-bi. He has always asked her permission every step of the way in this relationship. He has followed her lead. He has made clear that he is damaged goods and makes no apologies for it. He has asked her to accept him as he is, not what she hears from other people. She asked him if he had a girlfriend and he said no, but she chose to believe Seol Ah. When she confronted him, he didn’t confirm or deny, he said, “Is that the issue.” He wanted to know from her is that really the reason we aren’t together? He has told her flat out his feelings for her. That when he isn’t with her he misses her. For him, that is probably a big step in communications. She has the problem of listening to past and current gossip and letting that be an influence on her. What do we REALLY know about butterfly boys past??? Is he really that awful of a person? What have we actually seen to make an informed decision about him? Women hitting on him all the time and him responding back with looks and sly smiles or comments? But has he really done anything? Nope. It has all been gossip. All the things the writer has shown us have been a gentleman. The day in class when she got her period, when she was sick he took care of her, asking permission before being physically…
