Kim Sae Ron’s acting comeback plans have fallen through.

According to OSEN coverage, Kim Sae Ron has stepped down from the play “Dongchimi,” which she was scheduled to appear in.

Previously, Kim Sae Ron’s acting comeback was reported exclusively by OSEN. It has been about three years since her last drama and two years since the controversy surrounding her drunk driving incident in 2022.

The play “Dongchimi” depicts the lives of five families, including a father who is blunt but only knows his family, a mother who gives more than what she has, and three siblings who still act foolishly but promise to be filial when they fight. It is a long-running family drama that has been performed since its premiere in 2009 and has won awards such as the Korea Creative Culture and Arts Award and the Korean National Assembly Award for Best Play.

A representative from the theater company said, “Kim Sae Ron made efforts to return to the stage by going on a company outing with the actors she was going to appear with. However, after the news of her comeback spread, negative public opinion formed, and we couldn’t ignore it. Eventually, we decided to step down shortly before the opening.”

It was revealed that discussions regarding Kim Sae Ron’s return to the theater had been ongoing until recently. The negative public opinion formed due to her comeback being discussed while her health and condition did not improve had an impact on her decision to step down. After her theater comeback fell through, Kim Sae Ron is expected to continue her period of self-improvement, including working part-time as an acting lesson instructor.

Kim Sae Ron has been on a self-reflection hiatus since 2022 when it was revealed that she was caught by police drunk driving. The actress was revealed to have caused damage to the surrounding buildings and a traffic light since she hit a transformer. This was followed by a statement by her agency acknowledging the drunk driving, the actress has also released a personal apology letter and stepped down from the Netflix drama “Bloodhounds.”

Recently, she made headlines and received renewed backlash after posting a selfie with Kim Soo Hyun. His agency denied the dating rumors, and despite the actress saying she’s preparing for a statement, she ended up not releasing one after all adding to the backlash she’s been receiving.
