The group aespa‘s member Winter is currently recovering after undergoing pneumothorax surgery [also know as collapsed lung surgery].
On the 12th of April, their agency SM Entertainment stated, “Winter recently underwent pneumothorax surgery and is currently recovering. Due to the condition being prone to recurrence, we decided to take preemptive measures based on the medical team’s opinion after sufficient discussion.” They also added, “Future schedules will be prioritized according to Winter’s recovery status.”
Winter underwent pneumothorax surgery at a large hospital in Seoul on the 11th. After recovering, she is scheduled to continue with planned activities such as comebacks and world tours.
Pneumothorax is a condition where air or gas accumulates in the pleural cavity (a sealed space between the two layers of the pleura), due to a hole in the lungs, causing the air pocket to collapse. It is more common in lean males, but it is also known to be caused by lung diseases or genetic factors.
The typical symptoms of pneumothorax are chest pain and difficulty breathing. The pain usually subsides within 24 hours after sudden onset. The type of pain may vary from person to person, but it is often described as a sharp stabbing sensation in the back or chest.
Get well soon Winter!
