“Chief Detective 1958” Breaks MBC’s Ratings Records For Highest Premiere Of Any Friday-Saturday Drama

MBC’s “Chief Detective 1958” is up to a wonderful recording-breaking start!

After much anticipation, Lee Je Hoon and Lee Dong Hwi’s newest series, “Chief Detective 1958” premiered on MBC and to a great start.

According to Nielsen Korea, “Chief Detective 1958” 1st episode recorded an average nationwide rating of 10.1%, breaking MBC’s ratings records for premiere ratings of any Friday-Saturday drama.

The original series which this drama is based on ran for 18 years from 1971 to 1989 and during its heyday achieved an incredible peak of 70%.

‘Chief Detective 1958’ is a prequel to the history of Korean detective dramas, focusing on Detective Park Young-han’s assignment in Seoul in 1958. Set in an era of chaos, the drama follows Detective Park Young-han [Lee Je Hoon] and his three unique colleagues as they come together to break the corrupt power structures and become detectives for the people.

Competition in the same time slot is SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection” which scored 3.3%.
