Actors Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun have been confirmed to star in the new JTBC drama “Welcome to Samdalri.” This will mark the first JTBC drama for both actors.

“Welcome to Samdalri” tells the story of Yong Sam-dal, who left her hometown and rose to success while disregarding the importance of the river, in contrast to Yong Pyeol, who cherishes the river. After losing everything and hitting rock bottom, Sam-dal returns to her hometown and seeks solace. It is a heartwarming and humorous drama that portrays characters who, despite becoming adults, remain delicate and inexperienced in life, providing healing and warm emotions.

The drama brings together director Cha Young Hoon, known for “When the Camellia Blooms,” and writer Kwon Hye-ju, known for “Confession Couple” and “Hi Bye, Mama!”

Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun will take on the leading roles as the male and female protagonists, respectively. Ji Chang Wook will play the role of Jo Yong-pil, a weather forecaster at the Jeju Island Weather Agency. Yong-pil is a well-known troublemaker who even challenges the headquarters’ weather forecasts, engaging in debates with the agency’s director. After losing his mother, who was a haenyeo (Jeju female diver), he pursued his dream of becoming a forecaster to protect and cherish Jeju Island. He is an active and dedicated “troublemaker” at the weather agency.

Shin Hye Sun will play the role of Cho Eun-hye, or rather, Cho Sam-dal. Sam-dal, who has dreamt of leaving the island since childhood, escapes to Seoul and endures a difficult life as an assistant in the fashion photography industry under the pseudonym “Cho Eun-hye.” After eight years of hard work, she eventually climbs to the top. However, in an unexpected turn of events, her hard-earned success crumbles in an instant. She returns to the river she once dreamed of escaping from and assumes her old name, Sam-dal.

Yong-pil and Sam-dal, who were born and raised together in Samdarli, have always been inseparable and have spent more time together than any other day in their lives. However, for some reason, they have lost contact for many years. When Sam-dal returns to Yong-pil’s cherished hometown, their long-lost affection and love that have been quietly accumulating over the years will be both heartwarming and thrilling.

The production team welcomes Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun’s entry into JTBC with the belief that they will deliver performances perfectly suited for the roles of Samdarli’s iconic pair, Yong-pil and Sam-dal.

The production team expressed their intention to present a work that allows viewers to contemplate these precious aspects of life in the second half of 2023.
