Netflix has confirmed the production of the new series “Aema” and announced the casting of Honey Lee, Bang Hyo Rin, Jin Sun Kyu, and Jo Hyun Chul.
“Aema” is a Netflix series that depicts the chaotic and desperate struggle of Hee-ran and Joo-ae in the process of the birth of the movie ‘Aema Madame’ that hit Korea in the early 1980s. Set in 1980s Chungmuro, a fictional comedy that tells the story of the intense lives of actors behind the glamorous glory, is scheduled to unfold. Hee-ran, who was the top actress of that time but lost her leading role in the new movie ‘Aema Madame’ due to conflicts with the producer, will be played by Honey Lee.
The role of Shin Joo-ae, a rookie actress selected as the lead in ‘Aema Madame’, will be played by Bang Hyo Rrin, who has shown her presence in the short film industry with a unique atmosphere and intense emotional acting.
The role of the producer, Gu Jung-ho, will be played by Jin Sun Kyu. Gu Jung-ho, a producer who doesn’t hesitate to do anything to survive in the Chungmuro film industry, appoints a rookie actress selected through a large-scale audition to control the uncontrollable Hee-ran and enriches the narrative of the drama.
Jo Hyun Chul has been cast as Kwak In-woo, a rookie director with many dreams and a weak heart who is making his directorial debut with ‘Aema’. Through the character of In-woo, who is torn between various choices, the plan is to inject vibrant energy into the drama with solid acting skills.
The scriptwriting and directing of “Aema” will be done by director Lee Hae Young.
The drama is expected to release some time in 2024.
