Bang Ye Dam has finally personally lifted the veil on why he left TREASURE and YG Entertainment!

On the 23rd of November, Bang Ye Dam released his first mini album ‘Only One’. It has been a year since he left TREASURE and YG Entertainment. The reason he left the group was due to his musical concerns and future direction as an artist.

Bang Ye Dam, who had a desire and ambition to engage in activities with his own creations, said, “I had a thirst and I am also very ambitious. I can’t say that it is 100% resolved, but I feel relieved by producing great results. It’s not that group activities didn’t suit me. It was fun and I learned a lot, and it shaped me into who I am now. It aligns with the way I pursued and the future image of myself, but there are also regrets, so I gradually started to have ambitions. It was disappointing that I couldn’t participate 100%. I also wanted to show more of my own color and I wanted to engage in music activities more frequently.”

The title track “Hana Man Hae” was personally produced by Bang Ye Dam. The song expresses the feelings of a man who cannot understand the heart of his loved one. The reason for choosing the title track “Hana Man Hae” is because “it was easy to sing along to for anyone who heard it. It made people wonder ‘what’s next?’ I prepared it with sincerity,” he revealed. He further explained, “I thought it was a song that showed a lot of what I can do within 3 minutes.”

“This album is composed of love songs. It’s a theme that many people can relate to. I tried to include realistic lyrics, expressing the conflicting emotions and lingering attachments, but also the resolute rejection. If listeners can empathize with them, they can try following my lyrics,” he said with a laugh.

Bang Ye Dam showcased his outstanding talent and achieved second place in the SBS survival audition program ‘K-Pop Star 2,’ which aired from November 2012 to April 2013. Bang Ye Dam said, “When I occasionally see related videos, I try my best not to watch them,” with a smile. He added, “It’s not that there isn’t a strange feeling when I watch them. It’s been 10 years. At that time, I didn’t feel like myself because my identity hadn’t been established yet. That friend was confident and cool. Now that I have developed my identity and gained more knowledge, I also have fears. Sometimes, I try to find that mindset from that time.”

Bang Ye Dam made his debut in June 2020. After appearing on ‘K-Pop Star 2,’ he joined YG Entertainment and spent a long time as a trainee. When asked if there were any difficult times, Bang Ye Dam laughed and said, “It was during my middle school years. I didn’t find it too difficult because I was able to handle it in the practice room and in social life. Looking back, I think I spent that time well, not knowing where I would end up. As my trainee life became longer, people around me became impatient and frustrated, but because I was so young, I thought I had to grow up and be ready to debut. So, I didn’t find waiting frustrating.”

Now, after 10 years, when asked if he is getting closer to his dream, Bang Ye Dam replied, “I think I am gradually getting closer. I also had big dreams. My skills and artistic qualities have improved compared to before. I think if I approach it with the same mindset as before, I can do well.”
