After a lot of teasing on JTBC’s side, “Doctor Slump” finally premiered its first episodes, so how were they?

Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.

Let us delve right into it!

Its been three years since we last saw Shin Hye on screen, since then, a lot has changed for her, she’s now happily married and a mommy [so cute]. And she chose this as her comeback drama, so I was definitely intrigued for this point alone.

The combination of Hyung Sik and Shin Hye, who have worked together on The Heirs, meant a lot of eyes are on the drama and how it’d do. For the ratings, the start was fine, 4% for the 1st episode is not bad at all.

The screenwriter behind this drama also notably wrote “My Roommate Is A Gumiho,” which I thought was fine from a script perspective. But I was mostly interested in why Shin Hye chose this particular drama, and judging by the premiere, I can see why. It touched my heart.

I say this because personally speaking, I have struggled with burnout for some time in the past, it really was difficult and made me question my entire existence. Without boring anyone with details, I related a lot to what Ha Neul said in this drama.
So personally, this was a touching watching experience that had me tear up a couple of times. This feeling of entrapment despite working so hard is something I believe a lot of people in their mid-20 to mid-30s relate to these days, including me. It just feels like no matter how hard you try, you just cannot… escape a certain reality you fought so hard to escape.

This will be a rom-com, and we all know that Hyung Sik, in particular, shines in this genre, his comedic timing is impeccable. When I watched him teasing her and such, he does it with so much ease but it’s a talent that I believe you either have or not, and he does. The drunk scenes were so darn cute, and when they hugged my heart just melted.

I am guessing that Yoon Park’s character will recruit them both to his clinic which will then thrive. I believe Jeong-Woo won’t be charged heavily either because I think the screenwriter has plans for him to still do operations down the line, but that would be interesting if she decided against it.

They have 16 episodes, so I wonder whether this point will be directly resolved or not. But it is hella scary how life can turn upside down for you in just a moment.

For a premiere, I’d say “Doctor Slump” was cuter than expected, its heartwarming, relatable and fun. There is also suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat so let us see how this plays out for Jeong-Woo. I am pretty sure someone is framing him and it’ll be interesting to see who it is, I have a feeling it’s the brother of the woman.
