Several stars will join forces for a mystery melodrama period piece.

On the 20th of September, Netflix confirmed the production of the mystery melodrama period piece “Hong Rang” (working title) and announced the casting lineup, including Lee Jae Wook, Kim Jae Wook, Jo Bo Ah, Uhm Ji Won, Jung Ga Ram, and Park Byung Eun.

“Hong Rang” is a mystery melodrama period piece that revolves around the disappearance of Hong Rang, the son of a prominent figure in Joseon, and the story of Lee Ji (played by Jo Bo Ah), Hong Rang’s step-sister who desperately searches for his whereabouts, and Hong Rang (played by Lee Jae Wook) who returns with a secret, gradually developing a mysterious melodrama filled with affection and unknown emotions.

Based on the novel “Hong Rang” by author Jang Da-hye, which was loved for its fresh setting and attractive characters that break the conventions of historical dramas, “Hong Rang” starts with the event of the heir to the prominent figure who went missing at the age of eight returning as a twenty-year-old young man, and depicts the romance and mystery intertwined with tough connections, as well as the cruel fate of characters with their own motives while keeping secrets.

The fresh casting lineup also catches the eye. Lee Jae Wook will take on the role of Hong Rang, the son of the prominent figure who returned after 12 years of disappearance. Jo Bo Ah will play Lee Ji, who desperately searches for her step-brother Hong Rang.

Jung Ga Ram will play ‘Mu Jin’, who takes on the role of Hong Rang in place of the missing Hong Rang. Uhm Ji Won will transform into ‘Min Yeon-i’, the hostess of the prominent figure who does not hesitate to do anything to find her lost son and express her twisted motherhood. Kim Jae Wook will portray ‘Han Pyeong-daegun’, the only brother of the king and a sophisticated art enthusiast, marking his return to period drama acting after 15 years.
