Actress Han So Hee has spoken about the malicious comments from Japanese netizens that she received recently.
On the 15th of January, Han So Hee met with Ten Asia at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and shared various stories about the Netflix original series “Gyeongseong Creature.”
“Gyeongseong Creature” is a story about two youths who were born out of greed in the darkest spring of 1945, where survival was everything, and their confrontation with a monster. In the drama, Han So Hee played the role of Yoon Chae-ok, a notorious grave robber who even finds dead people.
After the release of “Gyeongseong Creature” Part 1, Han So Hee uploaded a photo of Doctor Ahn Joong-geun on her SNS, which led to a strong backlash from Japanese netizens.
Regarding this, Han So Hee said, “I didn’t upload the post to see what kind of result I would get. I had a picture of Doctor Ahn Joong-geun hanging on my wall, and I took a photo of it and posted it a few days after the release of Gyeongseong Creature.”
She continued, “After the release, it seemed that the opinions were flowing in a different direction from the theme we wanted to convey, and I felt unhappy about it. I thought it shouldn’t be like this. When I thought about it, I believed that there would be a clear camaraderie between Chae-ok and Tae-sang (played by Park Seo Joon). I thought there would be stories of various people living in that era. I wanted to focus on the people with different personalities living in that era, rather than just the love story. That’s why I posted it.”
In this post, when a Japanese person commented, “Honestly, this comment made me sad as a fan,” Han So Hee replied with a comment saying, “It’s sad, but it’s true. Still, thank you for having the courage.”
“I was actually grateful,” Han So Hee said. “It felt like a warm comment, and I was grateful for the courage. They also sent me a letter saying not to hurt Japanese fans through DMs, that it’s not the opinion of everyone, that we also accept it, and that personal attacks are wrong. And they asked how I would read all the comments. I can’t even read them because they are in Japanese,” she laughed.
She continued, “I posted my thoughts in my personal space. I didn’t calculate the ripple effect. Seeing the reactions, I thought there were people who think like this. I respect everything. If you decide on an answer and post a message, that’s like saying, ‘Let’s fight.’ My intention is like this: This is my thought, this is how I see this work, what about your thoughts? It’s a message. It’s a bit regrettable to have left comments, but it was a way of saying, ‘What can you do if it’s true?’ It’s like saying, ‘Even if you’re not, what can you do if you think that way?’ That’s it. I’m like that “ she said coolly.
