Actress Kim Ji Won has been excluded from the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards nominations, and fans are shocked!
On the 8th of April, the Baeksang Arts Awards office opened its official website and announced the nominees who have been active in the TV, film, and theater categories over the past year.
The most eye-catching nominee in the TV category that day was the Best Actor nominee. The male Best Actor nominees are Kim Soo Hyun (tvN ‘The Queen of Tears’), Namgoong Min (MBC My Dearest), Ryu Seung Ryong (Disney+ ‘Moving’), Yoo Yeon Seok (Another Bloody Day), and Im Siwan (Coupang Play ‘Youth’).
For the female Best Actor nominees are Ra Mi Ran, Ahn Eun Jin, Uhm Jung Hwa, Lee Honey, Lim Ji Yeon.
Kim Soo Hyun, who is currently achieving a 19% viewership rating and holds the second highest viewership rating for tvN dramas of all time with ‘The Queen of Tears,’ was nominated, but the female lead Kim Ji Won was excluded from the nominations, causing disappointment.
Kim Ji Won has topped the list of drama actors’ popularity released by Good Data Corporation, an online competitiveness analysis agency for K-content, for two consecutive weeks, and claimed the second spot in the popularity rankings for the third week of March, garnering hot attention every week.
In the Best Drama category, ‘The Queen of Tears’ is also notably not nominated. There are also no nominees from ‘The Queen of Tears’ in the Supporting Actor, New Actor, Directing, Writing, or Art categories. Kim Soo Hyun is the only nominee from ‘The Queen of Tears.’
The evaluation period for this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards is from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, and includes content provided on terrestrial, cable, OTT, and web platforms (works with at least 4 episodes or, in the case of series, with at least one-third of the episodes aired as of the evaluation date), as well as Korean feature films and theater performances released domestically during the same period. Prior to finalizing the nominees, a preliminary survey was conducted by 60 industry expert evaluators, and the nominees were determined through rigorous evaluation by judges appointed for each category based on recommendations from expert groups representing TV, film, and theater.
The ’60th Baeksang Arts Awards’ will be held on May 7th at 5:00 PM at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
