My Personal Thoughts
Oh MY GOD!!!
I just finished seeing both dramas and I am honestly impressed with both.
“Backstreet Rookie” didn’t give a good first impression but it’s definitely improving. What’s making it more fun for me has to be the chemistry between Wookie and Yoo Jung.
I know it’s way too early to say this, but I think this is one of the best kdrama pairings of 2020. I will be the first to admit, I didn’t like the idea of pairing them together at first and if you follow my blog, you already know that.
Episode 4 was the series best so far because it brought out the best (and worst) in each character. Wookie is so much fun to watch and the humor part in this episode was a lot better.
I think they took into consideration the heavy backlash they faced with episode 1, which was justifiable in my opinion.
Yoo Jung and Wookie really suit their characters, they’re aware of their charms but never come off pretentious. They flow together so well and honestly, I think Wookie has great chemistry with Yoo Jung so much so I am calling it one of the best Wookie kdrama-pairings ever.
He has good chemistry with most of his female leads, the age gap is still bothering me but I can tell it’s not interrupting their work. Pros.
On the other hand!
The 3rd episode of “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” has to be the best one yet, I liked the premiere episodes but as I’ve already said, they were fine, not that special. But now, I can see a glimpse of hope in “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay,” I was skeptic because of the director and the fact that this drama could end up falling victim to the stuff its making fun of or highlighting.
Casting Kwak Dong Yeon in any role is just… you have to be an amazing casting director to pick him for any damn project; I don’t understand why he’s not extremely popular everywhere already. He was the highlight of this episode and gave his all.
I can sense he loves acting and even when he doesn’t pick the best projects, he still shines and overshadows whoever he shares the screen with. This role must’ve not been an easy task and I’d assume an actor his status wouldn’t agree to such a role but he surprised me, again.
In short, I loved both “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” and “Backstreet Rookie” episode/s this week.
