Kris Wu has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
According to Chinese Central TV (CCTV) and other sources on the 24th of November, the Beijing Third Intermediate People’s Court rejected Kris’s appeal and upheld the original ruling of 13 years in prison for charges of rape and group licentiousness. China adopts a two-tier trial system, and the appeal court is the final court.
Note: “Group licentiousness” typically refers to a situation where a group of people engages in immoral or sexually unrestrained behavior collectively
The judges stated, “Kris Wu took advantage of the situation where the majority of the victims were intoxicated and engaged in sexual acts, which falls under the crime of rape. Furthermore, he organized and engaged in lewd activities with multiple people, making him the main perpetrator of group licentiousness.” They explained that the facts recognized by the original trial were clear and the evidence was sufficient.
Kris Wu was accused of engaging in lewd behavior with two women at his home in July 2018. He is also accused of sexually assaulting three women, using the same method of intoxicating them, at his home in December 2020.
Previously, the Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Court sentenced Kris to 11 years and 6 months in prison for rape and 1 year and 10 months for group licentiousness. They also issued an order for deportation after serving the sentence. Therefore, it is expected that Kris will be deported to Canada after serving his sentence. Canada enforces chemical castration on sex offenders, so Kris is unlikely to receive the same punishment.
Meanwhile, Kris debuted as a member of the group EXO on April 8, 2012. After leaving the group in 2014, he pursued individual activities in China.
