The group Red Velvet recently shared their thoughts on the trending idol challenge culture and how it has affected the way Kpop idols promote!
On the 15th of December, a new episode of BamBam’s talk show was released on his YouTube channel. In the released video, Red Velvet members Seulgi and Wendy, who recently made a comeback with “Chill Kill,” made an appearance.
On the topic of dance challenges, BamBam asked the two, “Have you been doing a lot of challenges?”
Seulgi responded, “The culture has really changed to a challenge culture.” BamBam cautiously asked, “Don’t you think it’s sometimes a bit excessive?” In response, Seulgi agreed, saying, “I do think it’s excessive,” and Wendy honestly replied, “It’s scary.”
BamBam said, “Instead of being scary, it should suddenly become fun, but it has become too natural.” Wendy expressed, “I feel sorry when I can’t reject someone because I really want to do it. It’s something that needs to be done in a short amount of time. I’m scared of challenges.”
BamBam continued, “If you don’t do it, your promotion won’t be well-known in today’s world.” Seulgi added, “That’s right. The most exposure comes from short videos, so we can’t miss out on that. We have to think about a new direction. We’ve thought a lot about how to promote this song differently, not just through dancing.”
Meanwhile, Red Velvet released their 3rd full-length album “Chill Kill” on the 13th of last month.
