Recently, the name of Singer Meenoi has been making headlines for her deteriorating relationship with her agency AOMG after she failed to show up to a scheduled advertisement shoot, this has brought into question her commitment to her career, her attitude and more. Let us talk about why this news has been trending in South Korea.

The situation, which started with tears during Meenoi’s live broadcast back in February, is escalating rapidly. It began with the singer tearfully holding an Instagram livestream back in early February where she says she ‘sinned’ and refers to the situation where she missed a schedule to shoot for an advertisement.

Back then, AOMG released a statement to reveal that Meenoi had suddenly canceled a recent contract advertisement shoot. Meenoi had been scheduled to shoot an advertisement for a cosmetics brand company, P, with whom she had signed a model contract in January, but she suddenly canceled two hours before the appointment. AOMG stated, “It was a result of a misunderstanding between our agency and the artist regarding the delegation of authority for signing the advertisement contract.”

Due to the already occurred no-show incident, the agency proceeded with returning the deposit and compensation to the advertiser. However, last month, Meenoi reignited the controversy by personally revealing the full story behind the live broadcast and the advertisement shoot no-show. She blamed the agency and claimed they had faked her stamp.

Meenoi claims her stamp was faked and blames AOMG

Meenoi returned with a new live broadcast and stated, “I can’t stand it anymore,” and alleged that the company had forged her signature on the advertisement contract.

She stated, “I was not even shared the contents of the advertisement contract, and they did not tell me when the contract was signed. Seeing that the advertising fee had already been paid in the settlement document, I wondered ‘why did this come in?’ and later found out that a contract had been signed. I then asked to see the contract, but they did not show it immediately, so I waited and eventually went to see it myself,” claiming that AOMG unilaterally signed the advertisement contract without consulting her.

She continued, “There was a fake stamp with my name on it in the advertisement contract, which was different from my stamp, and compared to the 2022 advertisement contract, there was more content, so I demanded a modification of the contract terms, but as the adjustment was not made, I clearly expressed my refusal to shoot. I am sorry for causing concern. I can’t stand it anymore. I want to bravely face this now.”

Meenoi then stated, “The conversation became heated when they said we would have to go to court when discussing the advertisement contract. I didn’t want to argue like that. I have never lied. It’s true,” appealing to her innocence.

Dispatch’s report about Meenoi

However, on the 6th of March, Dispatch revealed a shocking report that shows the KakaoTalk conversation between Meenoi, her agency and her manager.

In the conversations, the singer is seen demanding to see the advertisement contract on Saturday, which could have been viewed on Monday, a working day. In the conversation, Meenoi responded with “I like it” to the 200 million won (about $150,000 USD) advertisement guarantee for six months.

The conversation indicates that Meenoi was aware of the contract and terms unlike what she’d previously alleged. Dispatch also alleges that it was a digital signature, not a stamp as she had said in her previous livestream.

After the Dispatch report about Meenoi, she started another live broadcast to explain her position and said, “When I said ‘good’ about the advertising fee of 200 million won, it was because it was something that was told to me by the agency to say,” and also added, “The conversation was not about the advertising itself, but about the concept and styling of the advertisement. I didn’t even know that the advertising contract had been signed. We had the conversation in December last year, but the stamp on the document was dated the day before.”

She continued, “I didn’t think there would be a problem with the contract. Usually, 50% of the payment is made after shooting the advertisement, and the remaining 50% is paid after the advertisement is released. It was the first time I saw the money in the settlement statement. So, I requested to check the contract. It was Saturday that day, and the shoot was scheduled for Tuesday, so I was anxious.”

She further explained, “I waited 4 hours on Monday night to review the contract. Since there were no modifications, I said I couldn’t shoot like this. Then the CEO called my manager and said, ‘You don’t have to shoot it. I didn’t want to argue, but since the fans were waiting for me, I thought it was right to explain my position. I have never lied.”

During her live broadcast, she does not explain why she alleged the stamp was faked in the first place.

AOMG allegedly making moves to terminate contract with Meenoi

Due to this, industry insiders are alleging that AOMG is finalizing terms to finish her contract with them due to what happened as the situation continuously escalated.

AOMG has not yet commented on the new allegations. As the conflict between the two parties seems to be reaching a point of no return, all eyes are on how the truth game surrounding the advertisement no-show will be resolved.

Originally, Meenoi signed an exclusive contract with AOMG in November of last year.
