Super Junior confessed that they faced a crisis of disbandment after the failure to renew their contract with SM Entertainment. There were disagreements among the members during the process of renewing or leaving SM Entertainment.
On Wednesday night, the 27th of March, MBC’s ‘Radio Star’ will feature Super Junior members Kim Heechul, Leeteuk, Yesung, and Eunhyuk in a special episode titled ‘Super Junior, it’s fortunate if we don’t fight’.
Kim Heechul will be visiting ‘Radio Star’ after a long time. He mentioned that he gained something valuable from his appearance on the show four years ago and formed a connection with the professional gamer Faker, who was a guest at that time. He expressed regret by saying, “I don’t gain anything today,” and bluntly drew a line by pointing at Eunhyuk and saying, “That guy is not from SM,” starting the conversation about Super Junior’s contract renewals with no hesitation.
During the show, Heechul confessed that Super Junior felt a crisis of disbandment as they approached their 20th debut anniversary next year, negotiating a renewal with SM Entertainment last year. Donghae and Eunhyuk started their own company after parting ways with SM, Kyuhyun transferred to Antenna, while the rest of the members, except Leeteuk and Yesung, pondered on their future. He recalled the tense atmosphere during the discussions and humorously mentioned how Lee Soo Man left after he renewed his contract. He said, “The atmosphere during the meetings was harsh…”
He also expressed disappointment when Kyuhyun changed after joining Antenna, sharing a conversation where Eunhyuk doubted if Heechul would fit in Antenna, to which Kyuhyun immediately responded negatively. He attributed Kyuhyun’s success as an entertainer to ‘Radio Star’, emphasizing the show’s contribution to his development.
Heechul also explained that the reason Super Junior’s content feels lacking recently is that they used to have more episodes of members fighting, but now there are fewer conflicts. He promised to create fighting episodes with his members for the show’s 20th anniversary next year.
