Recently, reports of IU being sued for plagiarism by a non-celebrity made headlines everywhere!

On May 10, various news outlets reported that a non-celebrity (referred to as “A”) filed a complaint against singer IU on the violation of copyright law. The filed complaint was reportedly made against a total of six of IU’s songs: “The red shoes,” “Good Day,” “BBIBBI,” “pitiful,” “Boo,” and “Celebrity.”

To address the rumors, the agency issued a statement, it reads as follows:

Hello. This is EDAM Entertainment.
We would like to express our gratitude to all the fans who have shown unwavering support and love for our artist, IU, who is under EDAM Entertainment.
We are aware of false allegations and rumors containing plagiarism, sexual harassment, defamation, and privacy infringement being distributed in online communities, SNS, and YouTube related to IU. We have confirmed that there have been several malicious postings at a serious level on various online communities and Naver cafes for several months.
From the time the allegations were raised, we have collected evidence such as plagiarism allegations, sexual harassment, defamation, false information dissemination, and invasion of privacy and submitted a criminal complaint through a law firm to the investigative agency. While waiting for the progress of the investigation, we learned through media reports today that we were reported to the police for plagiarism.
Regarding this, we have not received any contact from the investigative agency, and we learned about the report for the first time through the media. We have not yet confirmed the contents of the report mentioned in the media.
Moreover, those who continue to spread distorted false information are causing significant harm to not only the artist but also the staff of the agency, their business partners, and acquaintances by inflicting psychological and verbal violence. Therefore, we have come to the decision that we can no longer tolerate or ignore such behavior, fully recognizing the seriousness of the situation.
It is a clear illegal act to defame an artist’s reputation with malicious content, falsely portraying it as if it were true, and we emphasize that this is subject to strong legal measures. If anyone continues to post malicious content repeatedly, such as personal insults and defamation, or reproduces false information, we will take strong legal action without mercy.
Collecting malicious posts about our affiliated artists and taking legal action against them are being done regularly. We are currently collecting a large amount of evidence for malicious posts that were filed months ago, and it is difficult to disclose specific details due to requests from investigative agencies. We want to emphasize that we are aware of the seriousness of the situation more than ever.
We will do our best to track down the malicious post writers and protect the rights of our affiliated artists. We will respond more strongly without any compromise or agreement during this process. We also want to reiterate that we will continue to take strong action against crimes related to false accusations based on groundless facts and third-party harm.
Furthermore, we will actively continue to collect and supplement evidence for malicious posts, monitor them internally, and pursue strong legal action. Therefore, if you discover any clear criminal acts, such as malicious posts that violate the personality rights of our affiliated artists or spread rumors, please report them to our official email account.
Lastly, EDAM Entertainment will make every effort to ensure that IU and YooAena’s path together is filled with uninterrupted happiness for a long time to come. Thank you.
