Goo Hara’s ex-boyfriend Choi Jong Bum will serve jail time!

On July 2, the verdict for Choi Jong Bum’s crimes was finally served and shockingly he will serve jail time after he was initially only given a suspended sentence.

In 2019, he was charged by prosecutors with violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (filming body parts without consent), assault causing bodily harm, intimidation (blackmail), coercion, and destruction and damage of property.

In his first trial, he received a prison sentence of one year and six months, suspended for three years of probation, which both he and the prosecution filed an appeal for. The appeal was held on May 21 of 2020 and he pled guilty to all charges except for the one regarding nonconsensual filming.

At the final ruling, he was sentenced to one year in prison and has been placed under custody as the court believes he’s a flight risk.

However, the court maintains their previous verdict of finding him not guilty of filming the victim’s body without consent, citing that based on the evidence the prosecution submitted, “it is still difficult to say beyond a reasonable doubt that filming took place without consent.”

Goo Hara’s brother attended the final sentencing and he met reporters afterwards, he said that the small prison sentence he’ll serve will provide a source of comfort to their family, however, he added that they find it regrettable that he was not found guilty of filming her without her consent and that he was sentenced to one year.

Goo Hara’s brother says he won’t stop fighting and will pursue a final appeal to increase his prison sentence.
