(G)I-DLE Yuqi’s answer about why she chose Cube Entertainment over SM is making headlines.
On the most recent episode of MBC variety show “Radio Star,” (G)I-DLE’s Yuqi revealed the story of her debut where she received love calls from both her current agency, Cube Entertainment, and SM Entertainment.
During the show, Yuqi shared her journey leading up to her debut as a member of (G)I-DLE. She revealed that she was a member of a middle school dance club and had dreams of becoming a K-pop artist.
In particular, Yuqi surprised everyone by stating, “I was a genuine fan of Super Junior, and joining SM Entertainment was my dream. I auditioned for SM Beijing four times. After the fourth audition, I received a call from Cube Entertainment for an audition at their company.”
Yuqi further explained, “I was in a dilemma. SM was my dream, and I liked girl crush concepts, so I admired 4Minute, who was under Cube at that time.” She mentioned that she had a cute and pretty face, which suited the SM image, but her voice was husky and more suitable for Cube Entertainment, causing her to struggle with her decision.
Eventually, Yuqi chose Cube Entertainment because the CEO of the company told her, “If you sign with Cube, you can debut next year.” She made the decision for a faster debut. Yuqi concluded by expressing her gratitude to Cube Entertainment and jokingly said, “Thank you, Cube.”

I’m glad she chose Cube, despite the mismanagement, she fits in (G)I-DLE , she has the artist freedom to compose and produce music. She fits Cube more than SM
