Former member of the group Wonder Girls, singer Yubin, has broken up with tennis player Kwon Soon Woo, who is 9 years younger than her.
On the 5th of October, Yubin’s agency confirmed the news to media outlets saying, “It is true that the two have broken up. They have decided to return to supporting each other [as colleagues].”
Yubin and Kwon Soon Woo revealed their relationship in May. At the time, Yubin shared a photo with Kwon Soon Woo and expressed deep affection, saying, “It’s my first public relationship. So I’m really happy.”
Kwon Soon Woo lost in the second round of the men’s singles at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games in China on the 25th of last month, with a set score of 1-2 against Thailand’s Kasidit Samrej. After the defeat, Kwon Soon Woo smashed his racket and refused to shake hands with his opponent, causing controversy over his poor sportsmanship. Some netizens unjustly criticized Yubin on her social network as a result.
As the controversy grew, Kwon Soon Woo wrote a handwritten apology the next day, stating, “I acted recklessly, which I should not have done as a national representative athlete,” and sincerely apologized to all the citizens and spectators who support the national team’s games.
