Wonyoung, a member of the group IVE, has won a lawsuit for damages against the YouTuber Sojang who cyberbullied her.

On the 17th of January, Starship Entertainment, the agency of Wonyoung, stated, “Since November 2022, we have been continuously pursuing civil and criminal lawsuits against Sojang, which has been persistently harassing our artists. Sojang has spread false information, causing serious damage to our artists’ reputation and inflicting severe pain on them.”

They continued, “The criminal complaint against Sojang has recently been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office. The case is still ongoing. We have filed two civil lawsuits against Sojang, and the trial for the civil lawsuit filed by our company is scheduled for this month.”

They further explained, “The lawsuit filed by Wonyoung herself (for 100 million won in damages) resulted in a victory by default judgment as the opposing party did not respond. We will announce our official position after all legal proceedings are concluded.”

Finally, Starship appealed to fans, saying, “We will continue to take all possible legal actions without any agreement regarding cases of defamation and additional damages to our artists. We ask for continuous reports from fans.”

The YouTuber Sojang had sparked controversy by posting malicious rumor videos about famous artists, including Jang Wonyoung.

Earlier, Starship had announced that they were pursuing civil and criminal lawsuits against Sojang last July, as well as lawsuits overseas. At the time, Starship stated that they had received an information disclosure order from a US court in May and obtained significant information about the operator of Sojang from Google’s US headquarters in July. Sojang has now disappeared, and a user who claimed to be the operator of the channel apologized through an online community, stating, “I got a taste of the income. I apologize to the idols and actors.”
