Disney+ has premiered its 2nd installment of whats known as “Soundtrack,” this time, two new leads take center stage, Keum Sae Rok and Noh Sang Hyun, so how was the premiere?

Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.

I remember liking the 1st one, I liked how short and sweet it was, it went straight to the point without dwelling too much on unnecessary side plots or what not. I remember saying this is how romance kdramas should be moving forward.

Romance dramas in general, not unique to South Korea, are limited. Everything that can be said and done about it has been done like at least 1000s of times already, so without any side plots or horror/fantasy elements woven within, it can become very stale very quickly.

This is why you rarely see pure romance Kdramas these days. There must always be something extra added to it. And it makes sense because romance alone does not keep people tuned in anymore. Not that romance dramas are over, but they are in the current known format, the long format of 12 or 16 episodes. They just don’t work anymore.

Then Disney+ Korean branch comes in with “Soundtrack” and assigns very low episodes count to it making me feel hopeful for the future of romance kdramas, again.

The premiere episodes get straight to the point and give enough information to get us invested in whats about to happen.

Its implied, thus far, that the female lead wanted the male lead to quit ‘daydreaming’ and being ‘childish’ and actually look for a stable future which triggered the breakup.

So far, this is the only angle we see. It’ll be interesting to see what happened precisely that led to their breakup because it always seemed that Suho was trying his best and making sure to communicate but getting shut down by Hyeon-Seo.

K is also very cute. Apparently, he’s an actual singer in real life. I don’t think the 2nd lead stands a chance but let us see how this goes.

Overall, it was an enjoyable premiere, looking forward to next week’s episodes. I highly doubt it would be something too bad considering how its only 6 episodes. I think it’ll mostly be an enjoyable watch overall.

so have you guys seen the premiere yet? did you enjoy it?
