KBS’s drama “Cafe Minamdang” has come to an end, here is a recap of its finale and its ending explained.
Who was the killer in “Cafe Minamdang”?
Turns out, the killer identity in the drama is prosecutor Cha Do-Won. He is the one who has been punishing terrible people but also killed some innocent people in the process.
Who killed Han Jae-Jeong? And why was he killed?
Cha Do-Won was the one who killed Han Jae-Jeong. During a confrontation with Nam Han-Jun, he admits he only went this far because Nam Han-Jun wouldn’t stop and acted ‘arrogant,’ and this resulted in the death of Jaejeong.
Did Nam Han-Jun die while pursuing the killer?
No, he did not. He was injured, especially during their last fight together, but he managed to stay alive and beat Cha Do-Won while waiting for police to come and get him.
Why did the serial killer commit those crimes?
During the pursuit of Cha Do-Won after he admits to his crimes to Nam Han-Jun, they discover tapes and diaries that he kept. Turns out, his father made him this way, he brainwashed him to thinking he was doing the right thing punishing those criminals. And he’s been acting as if he’s ‘changing’ the world with his crimes whilst he actually enjoyed committing them.
Did Nam Han-Jun and Han Jae-Hui end up together?
Yes, they continue to date. After the case wraps up, Nam Han-Jun decides to go on vacation. But eventually, he’s drawn back into this and continues to chase after criminals alongside his girlfriend.
How does “Cafe Minamdang” end?
“Cafe Minamdang” ends with Nam Han-Jun and Han Jae-Hui on a date together while he takes a break to search for happiness. They’re at a park when they suddenly hear two women scream. When they go to investigate, they find a hand sticking out of dirt with a mark on it that seems to have been inflicted after death as sort of a signature.
The couple returns to the cafe and the team whips out their gadgets and begin searching for the serial killer.
“Cafe Minamdang” ending review
That was a cute ending. I think it sort of wraps up most things nicely.
I was not the biggest fan of the 18 episode format and I said so in the beginning of the drama. Personally speaking, “Cafe Minamdang” humor style is not my favorite and it sort of gets on my nerves. Over-reaction and extreme facial expressions do not equal comedy in my book but again, comedy is very subjective.
I wished the drama had been a lot shorter. It was obvious from the get-go who the killer was. 18 episodes stretched this beyond what it could tolerate. Generally speaking, kdramas are 16 episodes but 18 here also doesn’t feel deserved. I think 10 episodes for such idea would have been ideal, but again, Korean broadcasting channels will resists such suggestions till the very end. I understand some of the reasons why, but to me, quality always triumphs over quantity.
I feel so bad for everyone involved because they did so well. Seo In Guk is amazing as per usual and I’ve wanted to see him a less serious role but I struggled with this one. Kwang Si Yang’s performance definitely stood out to me here, even with his facial expressions, he managed to make it not so cringy which is an indication of how good of an actor he is. It was nice seeing him play such a drastically different role from the serious ones he usually does. Kang Mina’s acting has also improved a lot, I am proud of her.
Hope Seo In guk doesn’t torture us and comes back with a new drama soon, preferably on Netflix.
