The main casting of Netflix’s “Doona!” has discussed the drama at its press conference!
On the morning of the 18th of October, the production presentation of the Netflix series “Doona!” was held. Suzy, Yang Se Jong, and director Lee Jung Hyo attended the event.
“Doona!” is a romance drama that tells the story of a normal college student named Won-jun, who meets Doona, a retired K-pop idol living in a share house, and the events that unfold.
Director Lee Jung Hyo described the drama by saying, “Doona! portrays the process of two people from different worlds merging into each other’s worlds, getting to know and understand each other, and becoming one. I wanted to depict the youth, memories, and love of inexperienced twenty-year-olds.” Suzy summarized the drama as “a drama about excitement, attraction, and healing,” raising expectations.
“Doona!” is a drama that has garnered attention since the casting stage, especially with expectations that Suzy would perfectly portray the character of Doona. Suzy cautiously expressed her satisfaction with the reactions, saying, “I felt good watching the responses. Although I have a cold side to me, I wanted to show that, which many people might not know. I made an effort to portray it well, so I think viewers might feel a better synchronization when they watch the drama.”
Both Suzy and Yang Se Jong were drawn to the excitement brought by the script of “Doona!”. Suzy stated, “After receiving the offer, I looked up the webtoon. I was attracted to the unique atmosphere that only the work and the character Doona had. Especially while reading the script, I was so excited that I couldn’t help but make sounds. I decided to appear in the drama because I thought I could express it beautifully before I get older.”
Yang Se Jong also shared, “I received a good thrill while reading the script. My heart was pounding. It might be my last opportunity to portray someone in their 20s. In the play, Won-joon is in his early 20s, so I think this might be Won-joon’s last chance to portray someone in this age group. That’s why I wanted to try it as my final challenge.”
The drama “Doona!” focuses on the character Doona, who was once a popular idol member but suddenly announces her retirement and hides in a share house. Suzy, who introduced Doona, described her as sharp, guarded, and wounded, but also someone who loves people and seeks love. Suzy wanted to leave a strong first impression on both the viewers and the character in the drama.
Suzy personally suggested the full bang hairstyle for Doona. He thought that Doona needed a new look that was different from her usual style in photoshoots and previous works.
Yang Se Jong plays the role of Lee Won-jun, who, despite being caught up in a busy reality, experiences intense excitement after meeting Doona at the share house. Lee Won-jun is portrayed as a clumsy person in his 20s who hasn’t experienced much romance.
The keyword for Lee Won-jun is “innocence.” The director mentioned that he and Yang Se Jong had a high level of synchronization in terms of innocence. He said, “When I had many conversations with Se Jong, the stories and emotions he shared with me were truly pure.” However, Yang Se-jong had a slightly different opinion. He said, “I think I have a lot of thoughts like Won-jun. However, Won-jun is much more innocent. As Yang Se Jong, I have an extreme personality, so when there is a character like Doona, I think I wouldn’t look at her and would give up quickly. That’s why Won-jun’s emotions are pure in themselves.”
Yang Se Jong focused more on the character Doona rather than how to portray Lee Won-jun’s emotions. He explained, “I focused on the changing relationship with Doona rather than how to express Won-jun. By focusing on Doona, it naturally expressed the character of Won-jun.”
The director also mentioned that Suzy and Yang Se Jong had a natural chemistry that brought their characters to life, even without doing much on screen.
Lastly, the director expressed his thoughts on “Doona!”, saying, “Through ‘Doona!’, I hope to show a slightly different romance. Since it is on Netflix, you don’t have to wait and can binge-watch it all at once. I hope viewers enjoy it and have fun.”
Meanwhile, the Netflix series “Doona!” was released on the 20th.
