Suzy, NCT’s Haechan, Tiger JK, BIBI, SM, HYBE And More Korean Celebrities Donate To Aid With Turkey And Syria’s Earthquake

While 35,000 people died in Turkey and Syria due to a massive earthquake, Korean stars continue to donate.

On February 13th, the Korean Committee for UNICEF (Secretary General Lee Ki Cheol) announced that Suzy had donated 100 million won to help the physical and mental recovery of children affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Through the Korean Committee for UNICEF, Suzy said, “I am listening to the news of the rescue, hoping that at least one more person will be rescued. I decided to donate after hearing the news that families and children of victims who had lost their homes were staying up all night in the freezing cold. I would be grateful if I could contribute even a little bit to helping children regain their dreams and hopes.”

Actors Song Yoon Ah and Seol Kyung Gu also donated 50 million won by participating in the UNICEF Korean Committee’s ‘Emergency Relief for Children Victims of the Earthquake in Turkey and Syria’. They donated 100 million won during the Sewol ferry disaster in 2014 and became members of the Honors Club, a group of major supporters of UNICEF.

Song Yoon Ah and Seol Kyung Gu said, “We were devastated to hear that more than 200,000 people were still trapped in the rubble. We decided to donate in the hope that children suffering from this earthquake would not lose hope. We hope that the day when Turkiye and Syrian children find hope again will come as soon as possible.”

NCT Haechan also conveyed his warm heart for the restoration of earthquake damage in Turkey and Syria. The 100 million won he donated to the Community Chest of Korea on February 13th will be used for humanitarian relief activities to protect the lives and health of victims by providing food kits, tents, and blankets for temporary shelters.

Haechan said, “I was heartbroken by the news that the people of Turkiye and Syria are suffering from the earthquake,” adding, “I hope the victims who are having a hard time will quickly return to their daily lives, and I hope it will help them overcome the damage.”

Artists from Feelgood Music, Tiger JK, Yoon Mirae, and BIBI also donated 40 million won to Doctors Without Borders, requesting that it be used for the recovery of Turkey and Syria.

They said, “We came to express our sincerity in the hope that there will be no more casualties in Turkey and Syria. We comfort the disasters of the two countries and hope that the damage will be restored as soon as possible.”

Various kpop companies also donated including SM Entertainment who donated 200 million won [$156,953] through Hope Bridge Korea National Disaster Relief Association to provide aid for the recent Turkey-Syria earthquakes. HYBE donated 500 million won [$392,382] through Save the Children to provide aid for children affected by the recent Turkey-Syria earthquakes

On February 6th, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southeast Turkey and Syria. The epicenter was 37.20 degrees north latitude and 36.99 degrees east longitude, and the depth of the earthquake was known to be about 24 km. So far, the death toll in the two countries has exceeded 33,000.

As the number of victims of the earthquake continues to rise, a wave of donations from Korean stars continues. In addition to the stars mentioned above, Kim Hye Soo, Park Seo Joon, MC Mong, and NCT Doyoung donated 100 million won each whereas Jeong Ryeo Won donated 50 million won, Kim Se Jeong 40 million won, Park Bo Young 30 million won, and SEVENTEEN S.Coups 20 million won.
