“Queen Of Tears” has recently held its press conference, here are some key takeways from the event!
The production presentation of tvN’s new weekend drama ‘Queen of Tears’ (written by Park Ji Eun, directed by Jang Young Woo Kim Hee Won) was held recently. The director, along with actors Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won, Park Sung Hoon, Kwak Dong Yeon, and Lee Joo Bin, attended the event and shared stories about the production.
‘Queen of Tears’ is a story about the thrilling crisis and miraculous love story of Hong Hae In (played by Kim Ji Won), the queen of a Queens group and a department store, and Baek Hyun Woo (played by Kim Soo Hyun), the son of a village leader and a supermarket prince, who are in their third year of marriage.
“Queen of Tears” is a collaboration between director Jang Young-woo of “Imitation” and director Kim Hee-won of “Vincenzo” and “Little Women.” Director Jang Young-woo expressed his happiness, saying, “We’ve known each other for about 17 years. Just by looking into each other’s eyes, we understand each other. She is my junior, but I sincerely respect her. I was so happy to work together. It was a heavy burden for me to co-direct, but I was very happy.”
Director Kim Hee-won also shared her gratitude, saying, “We have known each other for a long time as juniors and seniors. I have always respected him and wished for an opportunity to work together on a project. I am very thankful to be able to work on such a great project together. I learned a lot by watching him. Every moment has become an unforgettable memory.”
Kim Soo Hyun described his character Baek Hyun-woo and his unexpected situation, saying, “Born as the son of a rural superstore owner in Yongduri, he met Queen Hong Hae-in of the Queens Group, worked hard to date and succeeded in marriage, and is entering his third year. He decides to divorce due to an unexpected family crisis, but then becomes a love charmer. I hope you are curious about how he becomes a love charmer.”
Kim Ji Won, who plays the role of Hong Hae-in, the CEO of Queens Department Store, is a third-generation heiress of the Queens conglomerate. She has always been wealthy and independent, never kneeling to others or needing to kneel. She chose Baek Hyun-woo, the prince of the Yongduri supermarket, for marriage, leading a brilliant life until facing unexpected obstacles.
Kim Ji Won described her character Hong Hae-in, saying, “Hong Hae-in is the CEO of Queens Department Store as the third generation of the Queens conglomerate. Living selfishly in her own world of luxury, she falls in love with the prince of the Yongduri supermarket, Baek Hyun-woo, and lives diligently. However, she faces difficulties in her marriage and undergoes a transformation in the midst of trials.”
Park Sung Hoon plays the role of Yun Eun-sung, a former Wall Street analyst turned M&A specialist. He described his character as someone who appears gentle, affectionate, and smart on the surface but hides a mysterious veil underneath. He emphasized that his character, involved in planning with the Queens Group, naturally spends time with the two main characters, creating a subtle tension between the two couples.
He mentioned, “If I try to explain more, it will become a spoiler for the character. It’s hard to say anything, but the character has different facets on the surface, and it raises curiosity about what is sincere and true. So, I hope you watch closely.” He added, “I have a very good feeling. Park Ji-eun’s script is delicate, expressing various and subtle emotions well. It’s not just the story of the two couples but also the meeting of the two families, so it would be good to see how they blend.”
Kwak Dong Yeon portrays Hong Su-cheol, Hong Hae-in’s brother and the CEO of Queens Mart. The role of Cheon Da-hye, Su-cheol’s beautiful wife, is played by Lee Joo Bin. The two characters are expected to present a sweet and different romance with the pure and cheerful Su-cheol and the elegant and knowledgeable Cheon Da-hye.
Regarding the anticipated points, Kwak Dong Yeon mentioned that his character is, in fact, an extremely villainous character, causing a stir. He teased, “He instigates a lot of conflicts. The two families are closely intertwined in the village of Yongdu-ri. Su-cheol creates various relationships with many characters. From there, various events begin and get resolved. Please watch how Su-cheol, as a character, reaches changes and growth from the starting point to the end; it would be great.”
Lee Joo Bin, taking on the role of a young mother for the first time, shared her thoughts, saying, “I thought about how I could look a bit prettier externally and atmospherically. Since there is a baby, I pondered on how to bring the emotion of being a mother. I am like a cheerleader sending infinite support to Su-cheol. Although it’s a bit challenging for a perfect newlywed situation due to the baby, I thought about how to play the role of a daughter-in-law doing her best for the family.”
Overall, the actors shared their thoughts on their characters and the upcoming drama, “The Tears of the Queen,” and expressed their excitement for viewers to watch and see how the story unfolds.
