A current police officer who was arrested on charges of leaking information about the investigation into the late actor Lee Sun Kyun, who died after being investigated for drug use, was arrested.
According to authorities on the 21st of March, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Division urgently arrested a senior police officer, A, from the Incheon Police Agency in the morning.
A is accused of leaking a report on the progress of the investigation into Lee Sun Kyun’s drug case to external sources. It has been reported that A is working in a department unrelated to drug investigations.
After arresting A, the police conducted a second search and seizure at the Incheon Police Agency, including the office of the department to which A belongs. The police plan to transfer A to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency to investigate the details of the leaked information and analyze the seized materials.
A police official related to the case stated, “It is true that we have secured a rookie police officer on charges of leaking investigative information. We cannot disclose specific details of the investigation.”
The drug use allegations against Lee Sun Kyun were first reported through the media on October 19 last year. After being summoned for questioning three times, Lee Sun Kyun was found dead on December 27, four days after the third summons.
Following this, the Incheon Police Agency requested an investigation into the leak of investigative information to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency. The police have been conducting investigations, including seizing materials from the offices of the drug crime investigation department at the Incheon Police Agency and media outlets that reported detailed information about Lee Sun Kyun’s investigation on January 22.
