Park So Dam has talked about “Death’s Game” being her first project after recovering from cancer.
At a recent press conference for the TVing original drama “Death’s Game” held at CGV Yongsan Mall in Seoul, Park So Dam revealed her thoughts on playing the role of Death after her battle with thyroid papillary carcinoma.
“Death’s Game” is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name and tells the story of Choi Yi Jae, who experiences 12 deaths and lives before descending into hell. Park So Dam portrays the character of Death, a mysterious entity that passes judgment on Choi Yi Jae before he falls into hell.
Park So Dam had previously battled thyroid papillary carcinoma and took a long time to recover. She made her comeback in the movie “The Phantom.” She shared that “Death’s Game” was the first project she received after recovering from thyroid cancer. Regarding her character, she explained, “I don’t know her age or abilities. I think Death is not human but is connected to Yi Jae (played by Seo In Guk). She is a character who punishes him out of pity and hopes for him to realize.”
“Death’s Game” was a meaningful project for Park So Dam as it marked her first return to the industry since being declared cancer-free. She expressed that her health had caused concerns, saying, “I think I worried a lot of people. There were difficult moments during the recovery process. Those who have experienced the same pain can understand that emotional states and physical conditions can fluctuate. My voice still hasn’t fully returned.”
She continued, “Many people, including Seo In Guk and the director, helped me. Even if actors are not in good condition, they can display extraordinary strength on stage and in front of the camera. Maybe that’s why I could gather the courage and had a desire to do well. You will be able to see my best condition in the drama.”
Furthermore, Park So Dam shared her thoughts on the drama, saying, “I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say this, but I had a lot of thoughts when I woke up from anesthesia. I thought, ‘I have to live better from now on’ and ‘I have to live each day diligently.’ The everyday life that was given for granted became precious and valuable. After the surgery, I couldn’t even get out of bed without my father’s help. So, I became grateful for small things. In one of my lines, I say, ‘Humans only die once in a long time.’ When you watch our drama, you will realize how precious each day is in our lives. I cried a lot during the script reading. It made me think about life and death, and it will make many people reflect on their own lives.”
“Death’s Game” Part 1 will be released on TiVing on the 15th.
