Park Min Young Shocks With Drastic Transformation, Weighed 37 Kg [81 lb] To Play A Cancer Patient Role
Park Min Young underwent extreme weight loss for her role as a cancer patient.
On the 23rd of November, the production team of tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Marry My Husband” released the first still cut featuring Park Min Young as the character Kang Ji-won.
“Marry My Husband” is a drama based on a popular web novel of the same name. It tells the story of a woman who witnesses her best friend and husband’s affair and gets killed, but then goes back in time 10 years to give them a second chance at life and change their unfortunate fate.
In the drama, Kang Ji-won is an ordinary Korean woman who deals with an incompetent husband, an inconsiderate mother-in-law, and a difficult life at work. She has spent her whole life thinking of others more than herself, enduring everything at home and at work, but she didn’t realize that she became a “fool” surrounded by people who only take advantage of her kindness. However, what awaits Kang Ji-won at the end is her husband Park Min-hwan (played by Lee Yi Kyung) and her only friend Jung Soo-min (played by Song Ha Yoon)’s affair, and the cancer that comes at a young age.
The photos released by the production team show Kang Ji-won in a patient’s gown. The hat, the tired expression, and the pale complexion suggest the difficult battle with illness and the exhausted life before her regression. According to the production team, Park Min Young put in a lot of effort to realistically portray the character, even going as far as losing up to 37kg [81 lb] in weight.
The production team stated, “Park Min Young spared no effort to realistically portray the character as a cancer patient. Everyone on set was amazed by her dedication. We plan to excellently depict the stark contrast in temperature between Kang Ji-won before and after her regression, so we ask for a lot of interest.”
“Marry My Husband” will premiere on January 1st next year.
