Min Woo Hyuk has recently sat down for an interview with a media outlet to discuss the success of “Doctor Cha.”
Although Min Woo Hyuk had already gained recognition in the musical industry, “Doctor Cha” helped him achieve stardom, and he expressed his gratitude for receiving many offers for dramas and movies.
In ““Doctor Cha,” Min Woo Hyuk portrayed the charismatic surgeon Roy Kim, who had a sexy appeal, and he skillfully portrayed subtle emotions of love and sympathy towards Cha Jung-sook, standing as her sidekick. He also perfectly contrasted with Seo In-ho (played by Kim Byung Chul).
Min Woo Hyuk showed a surprised reaction, saying, “Even during the filming, I didn’t expect the drama to turn out this well. I can’t believe I received so much love, and Roy Kim is also receiving a lot of love, so it feels real. The director took good care of me. It was an important role, and many people were worried, but the director said, ‘I hope Min Woo Hyuk performs well and stands out.’ After the broadcast, the director even contacted me, shared screenshots of viewers’ reactions, and told me that everyone has fallen for Roy Kim. I was happy. Although I didn’t have a personal connection with the director, he trusted me a lot. We did a lot of script readings before the filming, and he wanted to change the tone of my voice, expressing his desire to create a contrasting image to Seo In-ho and Cha Jung-sook’s relationship. He thought of a character with a large build, tall height, and good athletic ability.”
Min Woo Hyuk also talked about the attention he received after the success of the drama, “After the drama, many people recognized me in my surroundings. Haha. I’ve been living in Suji, Yongin for a long time, and I often run into residents there. Even though it’s like they are seeing me for the first time, they react like, ‘Do you live here?’ I thought Roy Kim had become popular. There were rumors that a celebrity lives in our neighborhood. Haha. Among my family members, my grandmother really likes it and feels proud. I’ve been meeting my friends more often.”
Regarding his acting chemistry with Uhm Jung Hwa, Min Woo Hyuk said, “Uhm Jung Hwa, who appeared as a legend in the ‘Immortal Songs’ program, was someone I respected and admired. She was a superstar in high school, both as an actor and a singer. I thought there was no star like her, and when I first received the script, I felt a strong sense of trust in portraying Um Jung Hwa’s character, to the point where I thought I should do whatever it takes for this work.”

Min Woo Hyuk also shared his thoughts on the ending of “Doctor Cha,” where Roy Kim’s love line with Cha Jung-sook did not develop, and Cha Jung-sook suggested that Roy Kim should meet a wonderful woman.
He laughed and said, “I felt a bit disappointed. The director also completed the final editing of the 16th episode and said he felt that Roy’s character was too regretful. I also thought it would be nice if Roy remained friends with Cha Jung-sook or if he returned to the United States and met his foster parents, who raised him more like real family than his biological family when he was young. But then Jung-sook suggested to Roy to meet another woman who would be suitable for him, and Roy also listens to her. In fact, I tried not to shoot that scene. Haha.”
Lastly, Min Woo Hyuk expressed his affection for Roy and wished him well, saying, “I think Roy is loved and cherished by many people around him, and I’m glad he receives a lot of love. I think it would be nice to embrace him once and show him the love he deserves.”
