Song Ha Yoon, who played the role of Jung Soo-min in “Marry My Husband” , held an interview recently and expressed a mix of anxiety, loneliness, sadness, and gratitude to fans with tears.

In “Marry My Husband”, Song Ha Yoon played the role of Jung Soo-min, the sole close friend of Kang Ji-won (played by Park Min Young). However, as she engages in an affair with Ji-won’s husband, Park Min-hwan (played by Lee Yi Kyung), it disrupts Ji-won’s life.

When asked about her chemistry with Park Min Young, Song Ha Yoon said, “Being of the same age was a good thing. When we first met on set, even though we only exchanged glances, tears welled up in my eyes. Even now, thinking about it, we didn’t work on any projects together, and we didn’t meet personally, so I don’t know why that happened. Maybe there was an unspoken mutual support between us,” she added. “It was a work with a lot to do and a lot to handle, but I think we both knew that we had lived our lives diligently, which made it easier to relate as peers.”

Although Song Ha Yoon revealed that they had to maintain a certain distance on the set for immersion purposes, she mentioned, “Due to the nature of our roles, we couldn’t be very close. Viewers could notice it while watching the show, so there was an unspoken understanding, and we acted while keeping those boundaries. Even during acting, if I had to hear some unpleasant lines, it could be hurtful. So, in reality, I contacted Park Min Young later, saying that I really love her.”

Song Ha Yoon was asked about her efforts in portraying the external appearance of the character Soo-min. She explained, “In the beginning, although she is in her 30s, I wanted to give her a light, youthful feeling without any seriousness. So, I used a high tone for the voice, wore pink-toned outfits, and put waves in my hair or used large hairpins.”

In this regard, Song Ha-yoon mentioned that she wanted to portray the character Soo-min in a more detailed and three-dimensional way in the drama compared to the simplicity in the original webtoon.

Song Ha Yoon stated, “The feeling and nuance of the original work are the reasons it was loved, so I thought I should bring that. However, while maintaining the overall framework, I thought we should express the details in a more dramatic way. Things like personality and speech were expressed simply like in the webtoon, but feelings and emotions were expressed more three-dimensionally. The fact that my face turned red in the drama was a way to show Soo-min’s emotions that were expressed more simply in the webtoon without suppressing them, and that’s how we filmed it.”

As for the ending of “Marry My Husband,” which depicted Soo-min’s story heading to prison, Song Ha Yoon was asked if she was satisfied.

Song Ha Yoon said, “Soo-min is living another U&K life inside the prison. So far, I’ve concluded each work with a happy ending playing a good character, but the fact that they put this dangerous character, who has brought many dangerous people into the prison, has remained in my mind. It feels like it’s the first time I’ve felt this way, but after the ending, I don’t want to imagine what Soo-min looks like in the future because it’s scary.”

Lastly, Song Ha Yoon expressed her gratitude to the viewers of “Marry My Husband,” and emotions overwhelmed her as she thanked them.

She said, “Last year, I was so lonely, and I felt like I was being held back by the past, so I deleted my Instagram. Although it was a project I chose, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to immerse myself because it might erase what I had done in the past. I cut off meetings with people whose energy was consuming and, once, I was so lonely that I took the subway home from work. Even though Soo-min is such a bad character, I felt her loneliness so strongly that I naturally immersed myself well in the role.”

She continued, “I had made efforts, but the viewers spreading word of mouth and creating Soo-min, as well as the world created by the writer, were all things I sincerely appreciate. Everything seems to have come together as good fortune, and I am grateful for each day. Seeing that you are supporting me like this makes me feel like you are soothing the loneliness I felt alone. I am so thankful. Even now, just thinking that Soo-min is still there makes me tearful, but I will leave her well and try to heal so that it can be helpful for the next character.”

The tvN drama “Marry My Husband,” in which Song Ha Yoon played the role of Jung Soo-min, concluded with its final episode on the 20th of last month.
