KBS Releases Official Statement Addressing “River Where The Moon Rises” Future Following Ji Soo’s Departure
KBS has returned with an official statement detailing their approach to “River Where The Moon Rises” following its main lead Ji Soo’s controversy.
Earlier this week, bullying allegations came out against actor Ji Soo. Since then, he’s issued an apology admitting to his past wrongdoings and his agency has stated through an official press release that they would be looking into the allegations made against him.
This was followed by KBS confirming that his appearance on “River Where The Moon Rises” was canceled and that they were looking to replace him with another actor.
In KBS’s newly released statement, they apologized to the viewers for causing concern and extended their consolation to the victims. They have decided on the following:
- No reruns starring actor Ji Soo scheduled for this weekend
- “River Where The Moon Rises” episode 7 and 8; which will be broadcasted next week; will edit out scenes with Ji Soo’s character as much as possible
- Starting “River Where The Moon Rises” episode 9, the new actor will take over with newly filmed footage.
In their statement KBS added that they considered all the potential measures including cancelling the drama but ultimately decided against it fearing causing disappointment to viewers who have loved “River Where the Moon Rises.”

This ridiculous that actors get dropped or dramas get halted because 1000 netizens petition. But how about the 10’s of thousands of us that don’t object. Korea needs to come to the 20th century finally and understand that actors will have negative press but if their projects still do well because the positive overrides that they should proceed. By bending to the will of the haters they give them power and this vicious cycle will never end. Obviously there will be times when an actor has to be suspended or dropped, such as an arrest.
