The main cast of Disney+ “Vigilante,” minus Nam Joo Hyuk who is currently serving in the military, have attended the press conference!

Yoo Ji Tae, Kim So Jin, Lee Joon Hyuk and the director attended the event.

“Vigilante” is a dark hero story where Kim Ji Yong (played by Nam Joo Hyuk) punishes those who receive too light of a penalty for their mistakes with violence, in contrast to the mistake they have made. It’s based on the webtoon of the same name (by writer Kim Kyu Sam), which has garnered over 370 million views globally.

Yoo Ji Tae said, “Personally, I’m a big fan of the movie ‘Batman’ and was influenced by it. But now it’s time for a Korean-style action hero that goes beyond that, and I think that will be ‘Vigilante’.”

Considering that recent Korean content like ‘The Devil’ and ‘Casino’ has ranked high on global OTT platforms, there is high anticipation for the birth of a Korean dark hero.

What to look for in ‘Vigilante’ is how the actors interpret the original characters. Nam Joo Hyuk, Yoo Ji Tae, Lee Joon Hyuk, and Kim So Jin, who all have outstanding presence, are expected to immerse themselves in high-intensity acting.

Nam Joo Hyuk plays the role of Kim Ji Yong, a police college student who goes by the alias Vigilante. Kim Ji Yong, who enters the police college with the thought of finding his parents’ enemies, is a character who judges criminals every weekend.

Nam Joo Hyuk, who couldn’t attend the production presentation due to his military service, said through a video, “I’m very sorry that I can’t be there in person. ‘Vigilante’ is a work that I prepared with a lot of consideration. If you follow each character, you can feel like you’re watching a story. It will be released soon, and I ask for warm support and interest.”

Yoo Ji Tae, who portrayed Jo Heon, is the head of a special investigation team chasing ‘Vigilante’, who disrupts the legal system. Despite the contradictions in the law, he believes in going the right way in the end and has an extraordinary sense of duty in maintaining the social system.

Yoo Ji Tae said, “Before working on the visual content, I was a fan of the webtoon. I was confident that it could become a global trend. I remember recommending the webtoon to people around me.”

He added, “I kept analyzing the characters by obsessing over the lines and the script. The homework was to realistically express a cartoon-like character. I acted by well defining the character’s psychology and beliefs.”

Lee Joon Hyuk, who played Cho Kang Ok in ‘Vigilante’, is the young vice-president of DK Group, a prominent company in the drama, who follows ‘Vigilante’ in his own way using money and information.

When asked if he felt pressured coming back to ‘Vigilante’ after this year’s biggest hit film, “The Roundup”, Lee Joon Hyuk said, “I felt relatively less pressured because Yoo Ji Tae, Nam Joo Hyuk, and Kim So Jin are here.”

He continued, “Although they are both villains, ‘The Roundup’ deals with a self-righteousness theme, while ‘Vigilante’ contains the thought ‘Let’s try it till the end’. I didn’t fit with (the police) Nam Joo Hyuk this time. I watched up to episode 3 and felt that it’s a ‘thought-provoking work.'”

Kim So Jin plays the role of a broadcast reporter named Choi Mi Ryeo in ‘Vigilante’. She will increase her immersion by portraying a reporter who will not hesitate to give up her life to cover ‘Vigilante’.

Kim So Jin said, “I was curious about the new genre that I hadn’t tried before. The energy of the characters who seem extraordinary is very intense, strong, and attractive. I chose it out of an adventurous spirit to find a new charm different from a webtoon. You can look forward to the refreshing action of Vigilante who eliminates evil. While shooting the work, I had the opportunity to look at people more seriously.”

Director Choi Jung Yeol said, “I put in a lot of effort every episode to create an ending that makes you curious about the next episode. To put more than 140 episodes of the original story into 8 episodes, selection and focus were needed. I hope the fun is conveyed well.”

‘Vigilante’ will be released on Disney+ on November 8th and will be available every Wednesday.
