As tvN’s “Marry My Husband” premiered, the cast recently held a press conference to discuss the new drama!
tvN’s online production presentation for “Marry My Husband” was broadcasted via recording on the afternoon of the 1st of January. Originally scheduled to take place on the 27th of last month, it was postponed due to the sudden death of actor Lee Sun Kyun. Director Park Won-guk, Park Min Young, Na In Woo, Song Ha Yoon, Lee Yi Kyung and Lee Ki Kwang attended the event and shared stories about the drama.
“Marry My Husband” is a destiny-led drama in which a woman named Kang Ji-won (played by Park Min Young) witnesses her best friend and husband’s affair and is murdered, only to go back 10 years in time and experience her life again, returning their fate to them.
Director Park Won-guk, who directed the drama series “Special Labor Inspector Jo” and “Doctor Prisoner,” and writer Shin Yoo-dam, who presented a compelling narrative in the drama “Day and Night,” joined forces to raise expectations among drama fans.
Director Park Won-guk said, “Kang Ji-won, who lived a life like a slum, unfolds a touching story when she gains a new opportunity and courage. It is a revenge drama that mercilessly retaliates against the people who tormented Kang Ji-won, and I am confident that it has a refreshing taste.”
Director Park Won-guk also mentioned the difference between the drama and the webtoon of the same name, saying, “Dramas have the charm of actors changing expressions and revealing emotions every minute and second. I think viewers will be able to feel the fun and excitement that novels or webtoons couldn’t provide.”
Park Min Young plays Kang Ji-won in the drama. In the drama, Kang Ji-won has lived a miserable life, from a difficult married life and work life to battling cancer. She has experienced a tragic ending due to the betrayal of her husband, Park Min-hwan and her best friend, Jeong Soo-min (played by Song Ha Yoon). As Kang Ji-won, who opens a new chapter in her life through her second chance, she transforms from a gullible person into a reincarnation of revenge.
Regarding her role, Park Min Young explained, “Kang Ji-won has low self-esteem but is a kind and good-hearted person. She has had a lot taken away from her in life. I put a lot of effort into portraying the process of someone who hit rock bottom and is trying to pioneer their own destiny. It was happy to play a character who receives love.”
In order to portray the character of a cancer patient, Park Min Young lost 37kg and said, “There were points that I couldn’t take lightly. After acquiring a lot of information, I thought about how I could express it. It seemed like I couldn’t bring out the feeling if I lost weight in a healthy way. I even endured with ion drinks during filming. I tried my best.”
Na In Woo, who worked with Park Min Young for the first time, said, “If I were to give a score, it would be 2 million points. I want to express it bigger and more beautifully than being confined to a template. I received a lot of help from Park Min Young. It was really great to act together.”
Lee Ki Kwang chose “Marry My Husband” as his comeback drama after about 6 years. He said, “When I read the script, I found it interesting. I thought I could digest the character Baek Eun-ho well. Before filming, I felt that I could shoot warmly and quietly without any loud noises. It was enjoyable to film just as I thought. Thanks to the good atmosphere on set, I was able to showcase good acting.”
He added, “Baek Eun-ho is like a sunflower. He is a person who loves Kang Ji-won with single-minded devotion. He appears infinitely weak in front of Kang Ji-won. He has a charming love like that of a pure child. He has a lot of cute lines.”
Lee Yi Kyung, who took on the role of the worst husband on earth, said, “He is a friend who can arouse the anger of viewers. If I hadn’t sent Kang Ji-won back to the past, the drama couldn’t exist. I fulfilled my mission faithfully. I hope for criticism and finger-pointing. I think it is proof that the drama is loved.”
Song Ha Yoon said, “The character Jung Soo-min has complex emotions. I expressed the differences using colors. I tried to keep my acting simple. I filmed while thinking less. I tried to appear light, like nothing. In the beginning, I put a lot of emotions into it and got sick. I met with a psychiatrist and profiler for help.”
Finally, the cast members said about the highlights of “Marry My Husband,” “We worked hard, and it seems like a good result came out. Viewers will be able to enjoy it. We ask for your interest and love.”
The drama premiered on the 1st at 8:50 PM.
