MC Mong Fined For Not Attending Trial As Witness In Cryptocurrency Scam, He Reveals His Reasoning

Singer MC Mong has been revealed to have been demanded multiple times to attend as a witness in the trial of the coin listing kickback incident, but did not attend, and the singer has finally explained why!  

MC Mong explained his personal reason for not attending as being due to the trauma from the trial of the military service corruption case. On the 28th of February, MC Mong wrote on his own SNS, “I am a witness. (Coin fraud) controversy has nothing to do with me. I still continue to quietly focus on my music.”

According to the legal profession, in the trial of the coin listing kickback incident held on the 27th at the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Conciliation 11th Division (Chief Judge Jung Do-sung), the trial panel imposed a fine of 3 million won [$2200~] on MC Mong for refusing to attend as a witness.

MC Mong had received three summonses as a witness on December 26th last year, January 17th this year, and February 14th, but did not appear in court.

Regarding this, MC Mong explained, “I accepted the fine due to the trauma of the 3-year trial for the military service corruption case and the severe symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. I honestly told the prosecutors everything as a witness.”

Prior to MC Mong, his agency Million Market released an official statement on the 28th stating, “MC Mong has recently been requested to attend as a witness by the Seoul Southern District Court, and is considering attending the trial if necessary.”

The agency further stated, “However, we firmly state that MC Mong has no direct connection with the content of the trial. We ask to refrain from speculating on this matter and warn that we will take legal action against excessive dissemination and reproduction of false information about MC Mong.”

Meanwhile, the prosecution investigated that MC Mong received kickbacks by utilizing his friendship with Kang Jong-hyun, who is suspected of being the actual owner of the virtual asset exchange Bithumb. MC Mong has been identified as one of the key witnesses to uncover the circumstances of how a total of 5 billion won flowed between An Sung-hyun and Kang Jong-hyun, who is suspected of being the actual owner of Bithumb.
