HYBE To Trademark BTS’s V Signature Phrase “Borahae/I Purple You” After Another Company Tried To Trademark It
After fans expressed concerns about “Borahae/I Purple You” trademark, HYBE has revealed they will be filing to trademark it.
‘I Purple You [Borahae]’ is a very meaningful phrase for BTS fans all around the world, it was coined back in 2016 by V who used it to express his love and trust for the ARMY, it means that BTS and ARMY will love and trust each other till the end of time just like the last color of the rainbow, purple.
Last month, fans noticed that on the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) website the nail polish brand ‘L’ has filed for the trademark back in September 2020 and it was pending. They applied to trademark it for its soap, oil, perfume, and cosmetic products. On May 31, the company issued an official statement to apologize for attempting to trademark it and announced they’re withdrawing their application.
After that, fans concerns over who owns the rights for the phrase grew with many fans asking HYBE to step in and file to trademark it.
On June 8, Bloter News reported that HYBE filed a trademark application for the phrase “Borahae” with the Korean Intellectual Property Office on June 4. The phrase was used in BTS merch previously but the agency had not trademark it.
However, not every fan is happy with the news, while some are feeling relieved HYBE is trademarking the phrase, others believe it should be filed under Kim Taehyung’s name since he’s the one who coined it. Many ARMYs comments on the article revealing this news urged HYBE to file to trademark it under V’s name. Some of the comments include,
- “’Borahae’ belongs to Kim Taehyung, not Hybe”
- “’Borahae’ does not belong to Hybe or Big Hit or anyone else but BTS V, Kim Taehyung.”
- “They’re not registering it under HYBE, right?… Taehyung owns it, he created it. It should be registered under his name.”
