Himchan, a former member of the group B.A.P, has been sentenced to prison in the second trial over charges of indecent assault on a woman in 2018.
On February 9, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Himchan to 10 months in prison and ordered him to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program.
In the first trial, he escaped court custody, but in the second trial court arrested him, saying, “There is a risk of destroying evidence and running away. The defendant appeared to reflect on the crime in the second trial and made a deposit of 20 million won($15,000) to the victim. Considering the pain felt by the victim and the fact that the victim petitioned for severe punishment, a prison sentence is inevitable.”
The court gave Himchan a chance to speak just before his arrest, but Himchan refused to answer.
Earlier on July 24, 2018, Himchan was put on trial in April of the following year on charges of forcibly molesting a woman in her 20s at a pension in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. At the time of the incident, three men and three women, including Himchan and acquaintances, were drinking at the pension, and police officers were dispatched to the scene after the victim’s report.
The victim claimed that Himchan forcibly molested her regardless of her intention, but Himchan denied the charges, saying that there was implied consent.
The first trial court sentenced him to 10 months in prison, recognizing the charges of forced harassment.
Meanwhile, Himchan was additionally indicted in April last year on charges of forcibly molesting two women at a bar in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and is currently on trial.
