According to an article from Edaily, Don Spike, a composer and singer who was given a suspended sentence for drug use in the first trial, is saying he began using drugs because of his ex-girlfriend.
Don Spike’s lawyer, A, who is responsible for his appeal trial, revealed in an interview with News Daily that “Don Spike used drugs because he was upset about the breakup with his ex-girlfriend.” A also said that “Don Spike had a very good relationship with a woman he dated before he got married, and he really liked her. He thought they would get married, but their relationship ended when he found out that she was seeing someone else.”
The rapper married his wife in 2022, and the ex-girlfriend the lawyer brings up is not the same woman as his current wife which many netizens found utterly bizarre.
According to Lawyer A, Don Spike was shocked by this incident and stopped leaving his studio in the basement and lived like a hermit. One of his friends suggested that he try drugs, and Don Spike admitted to using drugs out of a sense of desperation. He allegedly continued to use drugs even after his wife accepted his proposal by nearly begging her, and was arrested three months after they were married. His wife has decided to stay with him and support him despite everything.
In January of this year, the trial judge sentenced Don Spike to three years in prison with a five-year suspended sentence, saying that he had actively cooperated with the investigation and admitted to all of his crimes and was reflecting on his actions, and that there were social ties to deter him from committing crimes again. However, his sentence was criticized as being too light. The prosecution appealed the decision, and the first appeal trial was held on April 6th.
Previously, he admitted the charges of using and buying methamphetamine but denied the charges of selling and arranging.
Don Spike was accused of buying 45 million (approx. $35,000) Won worth of methamphetamine on nine occasions from December of last year to September of last year and renting hotels and party rooms in the Gangnam area and injecting it 14 times.
Don Spike, who was arrested on September 26 at a hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was in possession of 30 grams of methamphetamine, which is about 1,000 doses.
Previously, Don Spike was fined 5 million (approx. $4000) won in 2010 for smoking cannabis. In the same year, he was sentenced to one year in prison and two years probation for a separate drug-related charge.
