(G)I-DLE‘s “Super Lady” has become their most costly music video to date and leader Soyeon explains why!
On the most recent episode of JTBC’s ‘Knowing Bros,’ (G)I-DLE’s Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua appeared, returning with the title track ‘Super Lady’ from their second regular album ‘2’ (Two).
Soyeon, who composed the new song ‘Super Lady,’ explained, “I grabbed onto the word ‘diva’ and started working on the song. There are many diva celebrities. I watched and referenced Beyoncé the most. We went to a concert together, drew inspiration from there, and completed the song.” Soyeon expressed the elevated status within the company, saying, “I have my own team in the company now. I don’t have to make the title track PowerPoint myself anymore,” receiving congratulations from the cast.
Kang Ho-dong asked, “Wasn’t the production cost significant for ‘Tomboy’?” Soyeon revealed, “The music video production cost for ‘Tomboy’ was 250 million won. We spent 1.1 billion won [$821,551] just on the music video for ‘Super Lady,'” surprising everyone, including the members. Members who heard this fact for the first time expressed shock, saying, “In the end, it’s all our money,” and Miyeon added, “I somehow felt that it cost a lot.”
Soyeon explained the reason for spending 1.1 billion won, saying, “It’s our first regular album in a long time. It’s on a large scale. More than half of the production cost went into hiring over 500 supporting actors and about 100 dancers.” In response, Lee Soo-geun joked, “If it does well, Soyeon has her song, so she doesn’t need a foundation, right?” Soyeon responded, “That’s right. Instead, I gave the members a big treat.” Miyeon proudly mentioned, “Soyeon gave me a custom microphone,” and Soyeon added, “It costs around 10 million won [$7,468] each. I prepared the best microphone.”
