The Hit SBS Drama “Payback” Cast Members Will Not Attend The 2023 SBS Drama Awards
As the 2023 SBS Drama Awards approaches, the team behind the late Lee Sun Kyun‘s drama “Payback” has announced that they will not be attending.
Despite its success, “Payback” did not receive any nominations for the awards, but the attention is now focused on the competitive field of candidates.
On the 28th of December, SBS stated, “Due to the sudden news in the entertainment industry, it will be difficult for the actors from “Payback” to attend the Drama Awards.” This decision seems to be a result of the aftermath of Lee Sun Kyun’s sudden passing.
“Payback” achieved a peak rating of 11.4%, making it one of the top three SBS dramas this year, following “Taxi Driver 2” and “Dr. Romantic 3.” It was a beloved work that received high ratings.
As a result, it was expected that the cast would attend the SBS Drama Awards to compete for trophies. However, Lee Sun Kyun was excluded from the list of nominees due to the controversy surrounding his alleged drug use at the time.
Although Moon Chae Won from “Payback” was mentioned as a candidate for the Best Actress award, she had already announced her absence. She stated that it was unrelated to the controversy surrounding Lee Sun Kyun. However, Kang You Seok and Park Hoon, who also appeared in the drama, were planning to attend the Drama Awards but will now be absent due to Lee Sun Kyun’s passing.
