Actress Song Hye Kyo has talked about her character Moon Dong Eun from her Netflix original series “The Glory” and revealed about losing weight and more.

Recently, the magazine Elle Korea released Song Hye Kyo’s pictorial along with her interview which has since gained attention.

When Song Hye Kyo was asked, “How did you want your character Moon Dong Eun to look externally?”

She answered,

I think the main characters in a melodrama have to look cool and beautiful. That way, viewers can be greatly satisfied and empathize with that kind of fantasy. But “The Glory” did not have such a factor so I didn’t have to do that. I barely put on makeup, and the lighting was kept in a direction that emphasized that look. Dong Eun had a hard time throughout her life, so I don’t think it would make sense if she was shown in perfectly good condition.”

Then, she talked about how some people called her old after seeing her in “The Glory,” sharing,

There are also talks about Song Hye Kyo suddenly getting old, but of course, I got older.”

She added,

“I’ve always played a role similar to my real age. Dong Eun is also in her late 30s. Joo Yeo Jung (Lee Do Hyun), who has a higher education qualification than Dong Eun because she joined college late, and teaches (a game of) Go to her, so is designated as “senior” by her.
I remember the scene where Dong Eun revealed her burn wounds all over her body in front of him who will become her helper. I hope the first scene where Dong Eun is showing her burn wounds to Yeo Jung came out expressing a woman who seemed to be thin and needs protection.”

Song Hye Kyo then revealed that she controlled her diet in order for her character to look thin, saying,

I already lost a lot of weight because I wanted Dong Eun to look exhausted externally. The person who decided to take revenge may gain weight, but I thought it would be better when the perpetrators were beaten by someone who’s considered small making them wonder ‘what’s scary about her.’ I controlled my diet more when I filmed the scene showing the burn wounds.”

What do you think of her look in “The Glory”?
