The drama ” The Escape Of The Seven” (written by Kim Sun-ok and directed by Joo Dong-min) has received 8 complaints to the Korea Communications Standards Commission (hereafter referred to KCSC) within its first week of broadcast.
According to the Commission on the 19th of September, a total of 8 complaints have been received regarding the content of episodes 1 and 2, which were broadcast on the 15th and 16th of this month.
While the Commission cannot disclose the specific content of the complaints, it appears that the main issue revolves around excessive and provocative content.
The Commission will review the content of the complaints and decide whether to put them on the deliberation agenda in the future.
“The Escape of the Seven” received criticism from viewers from its very first episode. The character Kim Ra-hee (played by Hwang Jung Eum) physically abuses her adopted daughter Bang Da-mi (played by Jung La El) for financial gain, showing child abuse. Additionally, Han Mo-ne (played by Lee Yoo Bi), who had not shown any signs of being pregnant, suddenly gives birth in the school art room and is depicted with blood on her thighs, which was shocking.
In addition to these scenes, “The Escape of the Seven” includes disturbing and uncomfortable scenes that go beyond typical makjang (exaggerated) drama, angering viewers. The writer Kim Sun-ok and director Joo Dong-min have a history of dramas that have received complaints from the Commission.
In just its first week of broadcast, “The Escape of the Seven” has presented various provocative elements such as extramarital affairs, child abuse, school violence, and underage childbirth.
“The Escape of the Seven” is a revenge drama that depicts the survival struggle of 7 villains involved in the disappearance of a young girl and the bloody retribution against them. It is planned to air up to Season 2.
