Its been revealed that a small fire has broke out during Mnet music program ‘M Countdown’ recording of aespa.

Mnet stated to Newsen on May 16, “A fire broke out in a set located in the stage corner while the pre-recording of the participating artist was taking place. We immediately suppressed the initial fire and evacuated the artists and the audience from the stage.”

They added, “There were no casualties confirmed from this fire. We will conduct fireproof treatment on all sets of ‘M Countdown’ and thoroughly inspect the maintenance status to prevent the recurrence of the same problem.”

On the morning of that day, a fire accident occurred during the pre-recording of the group aespa in the studio inside the CJ ENM building in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

After aespa finished one round of pre-recording, a fire broke out in the studio set, causing the pre-recording to be discontinued. Since the first pre-recording was completed, aespa’s pre-recorded performance for their new song will be broadcast without any issues on ‘M Countdown’, which will be aired at 6 p.m. today. Except for Winter, who decided to rest due to poor condition, the other three members will participate in the live broadcast as scheduled.

SM Entertainment, the agency of aespa, stated told media outlets, “There was an issue with the stage set during the pre-recording of ‘M Countdown’ today, and it was decided that Winter needs rest and stability due to poor condition. Therefore, only Karina, Giselle, and Ningning will attend the live broadcast of ‘M Countdown’ today. The decision on Winter’s participation in activities will be made considering her recovery status.”

Winter is currently recovering after receiving a pneumothorax surgery in April. Since pneumothorax is a condition prone to recurrence, she decided to focus on resting and stabilizing.

After the completion of the pre-recording, Ningning communicated with fans through the fan communication platform Bubble, saying, “I’m really sorry that the situation turned out like this and you’re worried. I will convey your concerns to Minjeong (Winter’s real name)! I will take good care of Minjeong unni. Don’t worry. Anyway, you really worked hard. I will continue to work hard! Take care of yourself and rest a bit after breakfast.”

Karina also comforted fans who were worried through Bubble, saying, “It’s such a relief that no one got hurt. Thank you so much for cheering for us since dawn. Thanks to you, I gained a lot of strength for our first broadcast.”
