Kep1er, the project girl group, is rumored to be reorganized as a seven-member group, excluding Kang Yeseo and Mashiro!

On May 16, it was rumored that Kep1er would become a 7-memebr group as Yeseo and Mashiro chose to return to their agency and the agency has decided not to extend their contract for Kep1er activities. It was also rumored the two girls would join the girl group LIMELIGHT.

Later on the same day, a representative from Kang Yeseo and Mashiro’s agency, 143 Entertainment, stated, “We are still in discussions with CJ ENM regarding the extension of Kep1er’s activities. Therefore, it is also a future issue whether Kang Yeseo and Mashiro will join 143 Entertainment’s girl group ‘LIME LIGHT’.”

A representative from CJ ENM also stated, “We are currently in discussions with the members and their respective agencies regarding the extension of Kep1er’s project activities.”

Kep1er is a group that was formed through the Mnet girl group survival show “Girls Planet 999.” Currently, they consist of nine members: Yujin, Xiaoting, Mashiro, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, Youngeun and Yeseo. They are managed by Wake One, a subsidiary of CJ ENM, and Swing Entertainment.

Their official activity period is 2 years and 6 months. If they proceed with their planned debut on January 1, 2022, they will disband in July. Last month, their agency also stated that they were in discussions for an extension and dismissed disbandment rumors. If Kep1er extends their activities, they will become the first project idol group born from an audition program to do so.

Kep1er proved their popularity by achieving first place on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” with their debut song “WA DA DA” just 12 days after their debut. This was the fastest record for a Korean girl group debut song to achieve first place on a terrestrial music show. The song also received a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan, making it the fastest debut song by a K-pop girl group to achieve this. They have also won several rookie awards at various music award shows.

Kep1er will release their first full-length album, “Kep1going On,” on June 3rd.
