SBS Addresses The Controversy Over The Best Couple Award Voting Criteria At The 2023 SBS Drama Awards
There continues to be controversy surrounding the ‘Best Couple Award’ at the ‘2023 SBS Drama Awards’ held today (29th).
The ‘2023 SBS Drama Awards’ are being held today. With high expectations for the celebration stage with an unprecedented lineup of actors and singers, as well as the award winners predicted to be unexpected, controversy has arisen over the voting method for the ‘Best Couple Award.’
Earlier, SBS conducted voting for the Best Couple Award through its official website from 9 am on the 18th to 1 pm on the 27th. The candidates were Rye On and Shin Ye Eun from “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse,” Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyung from ‘Romantic Dr. Kim 3,’ and Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung from “My Demon.”
Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung received overwhelming votes, showing a strong fan base. However, after the voting deadline, SBS added a post stating, “In addition to the website voting results, the Best Couple is selected based on the votes of each drama’s production team, SBS and Studio S employees, ratings, and other factors.”
As a result, some criticized the addition of judging criteria, speculating that it was added because Song Kang would be absent due to various schedules. Netizens reacted, saying, “The difference in votes between the first place, My Demon, and the second place is almost three times, with a difference of 220,000 votes”, “Is this a way of saying they won’t give the award?”, “Is it because Song Kang won’t be attending?”
Regarding the controversy over the voting method, SBS stated to Xsports News on this day, “The criteria for the Best Couple Award has been the same every year, and this year, due to many inquiries about the award criteria, it has been made explicit. We would appreciate it if you could check the award results through the broadcast.”
