Prosecution Requests One Year Prison Sentence For Famous “Squid Game” Actor Oh Young Soo For Charges Of Forced Molestation
Actor Oh Young Soo (79), known as “Grandpa Squid Game,” is facing a prison sentence!
The prosecution requested a one-year prison sentence and requested employment restrictions and the disclosure of personal information to the court during the sentencing trial held at the Suwon District Court on the 2nd of February.
The prosecution stated, “The defendant expressed his desire for youth in a distorted manner, saying, ‘You guys look like girls’ at a drinking gathering where the victim, Ms. A, was present in 2017, causing her to feel frustrated by apologizing via text message to A while avoiding responsibility by saying ‘like a daughter’.”
The prosecution further requested, “We ask for a severe punishment for the defendant, who has not shown remorse during the investigation and trial process.”
During his final statement, Oh Young Soo said, “It is very difficult and agonizing to stand in court at my age. It is disheartening that my life is crumbling in this situation. I hope for a wise judgment.”
Oh Young Soo’s defense lawyer also argued for his innocence, stating, “ here is very little evidence that aligns with this case outside the victim’s statement and related evidence. Considering the location, conditions, and timing, there is doubt about whether the defendant could have committed the crime.”
Oh Young Soo is accused of hugging Ms. A and kissing her on the cheek while saying, “Let’s hug once” on a walking path in a provincial area where he was staying for a theater performance in August 2017. In September of the same year, he is also accused of kissing A on the lips in front of her residence.
A filed a complaint against Oh Young Soo in December 2021, but the police did not forward the case for prosecution until February of the following year and finally decided not to prosecute in April after reviewing witness testimonies and lawyer opinions following the prosecution’s request for supplementary investigation. However, Oh Young Soo was referred to trial after a re-investigation at the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office’s Seongnam Branch following A’s objection.
During the prosecution’s investigation, Oh Young Soo denied the allegations, stating that he only held hands for guidance. In the first trial in February of last year, he apologized to the press before entering the courtroom, saying, “I apologize for causing trouble and will reveal the truth.”
At that time, Oh Young Soo’s defense lawyer also denied the indictment, stating, “While it is true that he walked on the walking path with the victim and visited her home, there is no evidence of sexual assault.”
The sentencing trial is scheduled to take place on March 15th.
