Lee Min Ho Talks About Taking On The Villain Role For The First Time Ever In Upcoming Drama “Pachinko”
Lee Min Ho has captured attention with his first pictorial as Louis Vuitton’s Watches and Jewelry ambassador in the latest issue of Esquire Magazine.
In the interview portion of the pictorial, he discusses taking on the villain role in his upcoming drama.
Lee Min Ho was asked about his upcoming drama “Pachinko,” based on the novel of the same title by Korean-American author Min Jin Lee. He plays the role of Koh Hansu. Lee Min Ho describes his character as the villain.
This marks his first-ever villain role, about that he said,
“Since I’m in my mid-30s, I think I’m pursuing the ‘real thing’ now. Otherwise I can’t agree with it, so becomes harder and harder. The criteria for reading the script, the resulting work, and myself going into it, If it’s not real, it’s hard.
So when I was offered to audition for “Pachinko,” back then I had a lot of worries, but when I read the script, I was convinced. I was convinced that with this project, I wanted to give it a try. I auditioned with that conviction, so I think it went well.”
The interview also goes through the types of characters Lee Min Ho has played over the years. Before, “Boys Over Flowers,” he was always the underprivileged character. He believes with his role in “The King: Eternal Monarch,” he graduated from the role of being prince charming.
Lee Min Ho also says he doesn’t mind taking on fantasy-like projects but it would have to be different as he believes each age range has its own approach that is appropriate.
Lee Min Ho also answered a question about the challenges of auditioning for an actor of his caliber, he said,
“First of all, I didn’t think about it at the time. But I had this thought while I was on my way to audition. ‘No, wait a minute. Will there be rumors if I fail the audition?” “Director, I think I made a mistake.” (Laugh)
More than that, when I read the script, something happened inside of me. It was a mixed feeling. I thought it would be a new way to take a look at our country through the eyes of foreigners…. I thought, “I need to do this.”
“Pachinko” is an upcoming Apple TV+ drama that is set to air some time in 2021.

My personal thoughts- by Jass K.
O.M.G! One of my favorite Lee Min Ho interviews in recent memories. I really like what he said and I am happy to know that he believes he should take on roles appropriate for his age, this is a sentiment I totally agree with.
I have been wishing to see Lee Min Ho take on the villain role since 2014, I have always wanted to see what he does with it. The Apple TV+ drama is set to air in 2021. I took a look at the casting and he’s starring opposite some huge names.
I also like the fact that he didn’t mind sharing his auditioning process for the role, many actors would feel embarrassed to talk about it. I think the script drew him into the project so much so that he was determined to make it work.
I seriously can’t wait to see his performance, I hope he wows me.
