Actor Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance fee for the drama “Queen of Tears” was recently reported but has since been debunked.
On the 26th of March, the tvN drama “Queen of Tears” side told Star News, “The claim that Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance fee is over 800 million won [$595,255] per episode is completely false.”
A media outlet reported that Kim Soo Hyun received an appearance fee of 800 million won per episode for appearing in “Queen of Tears.” Previously, it was reported that Kim Soo Hyun received a fee of 500 million won per episode, but it was said that he received a much higher fee of 300 million won for this project. Kim Soo Hyun’s fee surpassed the levels of top Korean stars such as Song Hye Kyo, Jun Ji Hyun, and Song Joong Ki, and he was reported to have reached the highest appearance fee among domestic label works.
If Kim Soo Hyun were to appear in all 16 episodes of “Queen of Tears” with a fee of 800 million won per episode, he would receive a total appearance fee of 12.8 billion [nearly $10 million] won for this project. This amount accounts for one-third of the production cost of “Queen of Tears,” which is approximately 40 billion won, making it quite astonishing.
However, according to Star News’ confirmation, Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance fee for “Queen of Tears” was not even close to 800 million won, and the actual fee differed significantly. From Kim Soo Hyun’s perspective, this discrepancy in appearance fees could be unfair.
“Queen of Tears” is a drama that depicts the thrilling crisis and miraculous love story of the third-generation heir of the Queens Group department store, Hong Hae In (played by Kim Ji Won), and the son of the village head, supermarket prince Baek Hyun Woo (played by Kim Soo Hyun). Kim Soo Hyun appears as Baek Hyun Woo, a lawyer for the Queens Group, in the drama. “Queen of Tears” has been gaining popularity, surpassing a peak viewership rating of 14.1% in the 6th episode aired on the 24th.
