The press conference of the new KBS drama “Heartbeat” was held today, here are some highlights from it!

Lead actors Ok Taecyeon, Won Ji An, Park Kang Hyun, Yoon So Hee, and director Lee Hyun-seok attended the event held on June 26.

The drama “Heartbeat” is a thrilling life-sustaining romance that begins when a half-human, half-vampire named Seon Woo-hyeol, who couldn’t become fully human by just one day, starts living together with a mysterious woman named Ju In-hae, who is not like any other humans.

Director Lee Hyun Seok said, “When I first read the script, the concept of a ‘half-human, half-vampire was innovative, and I felt a lot of interest and fun. The drama incorporates the desire of a vampire, an eternal being, to give up their everlasting life and become human. That sets it apart from other vampire stories. The chaotic romance comedy that ensues when Seon Woo-hyeol and Ju In-hae meet is charming.”

Ok Taecyeon plays Seon Woo-hyeol, the vampire with a compelling story who desires to become human. He had endured for a hundred years in order to become human, but just one day before his transformation, he wakes up from his sleep. Now, the only way to become human is to experience a “heart-fluttering love.”

Ok Taecyeon said, “I received the script for Heartbeat while shooting my previous work. At that time, the previous work was dark and heavy in genre, so reading this script made me feel lighter and brought healing. I thought that by taking on the character of Seon Woo-hyeol, I could express many things.”

Won Ji An plays Ju In-hae, a woman who doesn’t bleed a single drop of blood even when pricked. One day, she unexpectedly inherits a building and discovers that there was a vampire in the basement. Won Ji An also said, “The script was bright and fun to read. I think I can approach the viewers in a light and friendly manner.”

Park Kang Hyun portrays Shin Do-sik, a modern vampire hunter. He has a hereditary heart disease that has plagued his family for generations, and he is searching for the blood of a “half-human vampire” to cure his condition. Park Kang Hyun expressed his thoughts on his drama debut, saying, “Since this is my first drama, I had no reason to be picky. The character Shin Do-sik has elements of innocence and purity. I wanted to bring out those aspects from within me.”

Yoon So Hee takes on the dual roles of Hae-seon, a noblewoman from the Joseon era, and Hae-won, the illegitimate daughter of a real estate tycoon. The story of why Seon Woo-hyeol, the vampire, wants to become human is intertwined with Hae-seon. Yoon So Hee said, “I wanted to try the fantasy genre. This work has some differences from the existing vampire stories. The vampires that appear in this drama are weaker than humans. The character I play can confront such vampires.”

Director Lee Hyun-seok emphasized the distinction of the drama during the era of romantic comedy dramas by stating, “By chance, a drama of a similar genre is finding its audience during the heyday of rom-com dramas. Our drama depicts a love story between a human and a vampire. The chaotic romantic comedy between the vampire who wants to become human and the human is something that anyone can comfortably enjoy.”

Regarding Ok Taecyeon taking on the lead role in a KBS drama amidst the slump in KBS dramas, he said, “I didn’t think about it that way. I think it’s a work that we all create together, despite being a lead actor. The actors and staff are all working hard and expecting good results. I don’t think a drama is bad just because it didn’t perform well. Of course, I hope for even better results.”

The KBS Monday-Tuesday drama “Heartbeat” starring Ok Taecyeon, Won Ji An, Park Kang Hyun, and Yoon So Hee, will aired earlier today.
